Title: Frustrating morning
Post by: STEMO on 04 August 2018, 13:07:49
Had a skip delivered today his morning with the intention of moving about five ton of soil, stone, slate and various other crap that was in a plywood box around a tree out the back. Skip arrived at 8 and, by about 9:30, I had about three ton in the skip. There is nowhere to get a wheelbarrow in and out so I was quite happy filling builders buckets and hand balling it out.
The I hit a root...a big root. Then another, and another. I scraped away at the trunk of the tree only to find that the roots were wrapped around it under the soil. Shit  :(
So..called 'a man' out who told me that the roots around the trunk were done deliberately, some kind of weird arboreal technique. Told me I was wasting my time without the proper gear....and manpower (cheeky bastid)  ;D
Upshot: Roots, muck and fickin tree going on Friday. £140 for a skip I only half filled. :( But a kind neighbour has offered to fill it to the top with some shite from his garden, so I don't feel too bad sending it back half empty.  ;D

C'est la vie.

Shouldn't the previous owner of your Barnsley penthouse have cleared the shit away before leaving?

Shouldn't you be planting trees to offset your dirty diesel fumes  :-\
maybe the council / government will plant some from all that landfill tax you just paid  :P

I have an ash tree that has appeared (not planted by me ,self seeded ,god knows) now 10 foot tall.
Mrs builder said get rid of it, but most ash trees are dying due to ash dye back ,this one is healthy
so I'm going to keep it
that should offset any minor fumes from my 2.6 omega  :y

We have several mature ash trees.

Eighty feet tall if they are an inch.

I don't know what type of tree this is. It's quite attractive, green leaves with deep red 'helicopter' thingies on it. It's only about 25' high, but it's been full of scale insects for about two years, so probably on its way out anyway.  'Man' is charging me £320 to get rid of it, along with the remaining two ton or so of soil around the bottom.
I'll be glad to get the space back, and the bedrooms at the rear should be a lot brighter.

Shouldn't present a problem for a young fit stud like yourself.

Unless of course you are a bone idle scouser.

I'm sure this 'man' will dispose of the crap in a responsible manner. ::)

Three big, strong lads are out there right now, digging, shovelling, grunting and farting. They look quite red and warm.
I'm sitting in the kitchen with a cup of tea, watching their exertions. Very relaxing.  :)

Just get a JCB; some kind soul must be able to lay their hands on one - before it is shipped abroad in a container :D :D ;)

It wouldn't fit through my back gate  ::) They're having to chop the root system right back, even that won't fit through the gate.

If driven fast enough, a JCB will "fit through" most gates  ;D
hope they clean up nice everywhere for you  :y

Before fly-tipping it somewhere just around the corner? ;D

(Which is what happened to my girlfriend when she had the garden cleared at her old house, and she very nearly ended up catching the fine for that!)
