There's a coloured clip, either brown blue or green at the end of each rod, that clips on to the right angle end of each rod end. It acts as a hinge or joint as well. So the direction of the hinge or joint swivels tells you which way the clip opens. So, from memory, if you have a 90 degree angle between rods, the clip opens from around the back of the hinge over the remaining 270degrees. Or something like that.

If your struggling with these, it might be best to leave it until someone can help show you how they work. Its fiddly t be fair.

I did this job using the guide. Getting the rods back in can be fiddly and they must be correctly positioned. Make sure you take plenty of photos as you go to help with reassembly. It takes time and patience.

Some days ago I was about swapping it too, but fortunately didn't need to  change as there was no problem with locking motor but lock structure was heavily corroded so much that motor couldn't drive it. Cleaned, oiled, rust removed and voila motor worked at once perfectly!  :) Pay attention to rust, too!  ;)

Agreed. Your pic in reply 3 shows the connector well. I find getting a hand in the gap in the door frame, then pressing the  release ears together, then pulling the switch away from the motor unit, is difficult. I have done it, collecting several nasty grazes in the process. I did one door with the latch still attached to the door frame, and did the second one with the latch unit loose from the door. Both methods were difficult!

Are there any tricks doing this job?

Putting it back is easy, it simply plugs in.

Once you do a few its easy..Its just reaching down in the door to unplug it thats a pain  :y

I had problems untill I released the  electric cable which was clipped at the base of the door.Made the motor more accessable.

So did I.  :y Disconnect rods, the three bolts out then release cabling  ;)

Thank you gentlemen. Now I know what to do. Disconnect cable attachment, release latch from door, pull it up to reveal cable, cut cable. Put bullet connectors on cable ends colour coded for reassembly. Disconnect motor from connector. Repair motor. Rejoin cable. Replace motor and plug in connector.

By removing 2 10mm bolts so handle can move  :y

why are you cutting cable the motor is released by unplugging

Because unplugging is difficult. Cutting is easy. Then I can unplug on the bench. Repairing the cable is easy. Plugging cable back in is easy.

This is not the way to go about it.. it is hard but it does unplug. there are two tabs to move on the plug.
You can bend one right back then push the other back while pulling on connector  :y

Hmm. Perhaps you are right. Looking at pic in reply3 there are several wires, and it seems undesirable to cut them all. My recollection is of shoving my arm into the door, groping around for the connector, finding the connector ears by feel, then strugging to press them together and at the same time pulling the connector off the motor. This requires strength in thumb and forefinger I lack.

What I seek is a trick, or a tool, to compress the ears and pull off the plug. Please advise.

Exactly. :y So bend one of the tabs back(the one that is not trying to be opened by your thumb pressure)And once you have unplugged the connector,Bend it back so when you plug back in you get the click.Ive done three like that now.It is a soft kind of plastic and should not break HTH  :y

And for the OP. I used a modified steel wall tie to operate the blue clip. Worked a treat. :y

Perhaps I was lucky but with the cable released from the bottom of the door the motor could be lifted far enough to remove the plug.

I have been talking nonsense. I found three old door motors and latches in my spares heap, with cables attached. The clips are easy to disengage. With the clips unclipped, as in pic, it is still challenging to pull the connector plug out of the socket, as the three lipped water seal needs a good wiggle to extract.
