Lack of heating - pfl 3.0 MV6
« on: 15 October 2021, 21:49:58 »

Took the MV6 out today.

Screen misty so full blower but nothing coming onto screen.

I know these are electronic selection so guess there’s something gone askew behind the selector button(s).

Is there a test to run or check I can make. I’ll have to remove stereo, ashtray etc  and remove the control panel.

Any pointers   ? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Pre or post face-lift?

Is the fan speed control a knob or buttons?

It’s the pfl with the 4 round control buttons (1999 mini facelift) 👍

First port of call is to see if the matrix pipes are both hot at the bulkhead.

Next to the brake servo, but in and down under the scuttle. Easy enough to get a hand on them without undoing anything.

If they're both hot then it's a control issue, but if one is colder, even slightly, then it's a matrix blockage ;)

When you say nothing is blowing on to the screen, do you mean it's blowing hot out of the lower vents but not moving up to the screen when the controls are set that way?

Well I think it’s two fold.

Certainly not blowing on screen when selected and don’t believe there is any hot air coming out the bottom or middle vents 🤔

Just checking you weren't sending Al down a blind alley. Your first post wasn't that clear.......to me.

Been out for a run in MV6 and got it well up-to temperature.

Both pipes for the heater matrix are defo hot.

Seems could be a control panel fault if such exists. 🤔

The blower only seems to work (without heat) on the middle air vents with no blower or heat on floor or screen

It sounds like something has become disconnected.

Engine off, ignition on 2, radio off.

Fan switch to zero.

One at a time turn the distribution control slowly from each position to the next. You should hear/feel things moving with no significant resistance or binding.

Repeat with both temperature controls.

Any unusual sounds or binding points to an issue.

Also, check the scuttle for leaves etc and the pollen filter for evidence of moisture... If the filter is blocked, the fan has no air to move, add moisture and it will blow condensation everywhere.

Haynes covers all the components of the pre and mid face-lift cars :y

Had a similar experience with mine recently, and it was down to the "Matrix Air Temperature Control Arm" having become disconnected on the driver's side. This drives another servo that opens/closes a valve on the heater matrix, without which the hot water from the engine just comes in and goes straight back out. As per maintenance guide -

Action shot of the arm for you - thought I might as well film it given I was already upside down in the foot well...  ;D

The rotary controls could well be different to the face lift cars which all have dual zone electronic climate control ;)

If the battery has been disconnected or discharged it may be worth going through the reset procedure - with the ignition on, hold down Auto and Off for 10 seconds.

That only works for face-lift climate equipped cars ;)

You mean...  and mini-facelift with electronic climate control... ?  ;)

OP has 1999 MV6, I had several such vintage, all had dual zone electronic climate control, possibly excluding ex-plod.  I still have a spare set in the garage for some reason (picture below is not mine)

Quite possibly  :y

However, OP did say four knobs, so I took that as Electronic Climate Control  ;)
