Heater motor
« on: 21 October 2021, 14:52:40 »

Hi guys hope your all well.

My heater has started to make a very loud buzzing noise when you put it on half to full power.
I removed the pollen filter and could not see or feel anything stuck or wedged anywhere.
I could feel the air flow was still nice and strong as I dangled a piece of paper down there and could feel it trying to suck it inwards.
The noise is coming from behind that part of the Skuttle so is there some type of motor there somewhere that is slowly dying maybe?
If so how difficult is it to replace.
I don't think there is a guide in the maintenance section covering it

Thanks in advance as usual  :y

Pop out the pollen filter, and add a couple of squirts of Wd40 onto the fan shaft, (visible through the intake) and report back.  :y

The fan bearings can get a bit noisy with less than full load, especially if they've gotten a bit damp ;)

Thanks Doc...  I'll give that a try when I get home from work later tonight.
I'll update tomorrow!

I sprayed it with WD40 and although it has definitely made it a bit better better it still sounds like a jet engine when you put the heater on over 4 bars.
I don't live in Antarctica so I can more then make do with not having the heater on one of the higher settings.
I just get worried it's going to go completely eventually that's all.
There was a small puddle of water at the bottom as well like Doctor Gollum suggested there might be as well.
I only ran it for a couple of minutes as I had to get to work but defo not quite as loud.
Looks absolutely impossible to get to it to replace it anyways.

It's not a dash out job, but your first job is to clean the scuttle drain before it floods the car :y

Chuffing nightmare to get down there to unblock it, I used an old toothbrush handle, don't ask!

To clear a blocked, or silt / leaf filled drain in the scuttle, I fill the void with water using a watering can but making sure it doesnt get high enough to flow into the heater ::). Insert your hand between the brake pipes and manipulate the end of the rubber drain grommet above the chassis rail. The weight of the water will then flow through the grommet and flush all the crap with it. The worst you will get is a wet hand or sleeve instead of cuts to the back of your hand trying to get a probe or wire or whatever in from the top. Works every time.
