Hi, I'm new to the forum and really like these cars but they are testing my patience!! I bought and elite estate at new year and the engine blew so I sold it and bought a BMW!! Hated that so I have bought an MV6. It ran great for about a week then started to misfire when it was on tickover, I cleaned the idle valve as suggested without success. Now the misfire has developed, over the last day or so it has misfired from cold and then cleared (except tickover) but now it is clearly down on at least one cyl, I bought some new plugs today and fitted 5, I couldn't get the cap off the rear l/h bank, some of the others were full of oil, so the cam box gasket is duff!! It' still on 5? and rough as hell, anyone got any ideas of where to go next or get the cap off the back plug!!

Have you used the orange tool to try and remove the plug lead, it makes it easier :y

OK quick update, had AA to it and there is no spark to the rear cyl drivers side and the middle cyl passenger side, and arcing on rear cyl passenger side will it be coil packs??

DIS pack plus cam cover gaskets and breathers.
The DIS failure may well be due to the oil in the wells!

I had the same thing.
oil in plug wells weakened the leads so much that it eventually snapped. I did not notice the fact that it was running on 5 cylinders until it was too late and the dispack died.
got a pattern part replacement dis pack from autovaux for £55, 2 extra long leads from halfords and 2 lead adaptors. I had the new dispack fitted, not where it is supposed to be on the back of the engine, but instead on the top of the engine wedged in next to the oil filler neck. this changed an 8 hour job of screaming and shouting at the stupidly badly placed dispack into a much shorter and easier job.
placing the dispack here also means that if my HBV splits again the water wont drip onto the dispack as it is located elsewhere.
the other thing to check is your HBV, it might be that your HBV has split, leaking water onto your dispack causing a short. are you leaking coolant? do you get whisps of steam coming up from the driver's side of the skuttle??

Dis pack change is a 30-40 minute job......1 hour tops!
And given that the cam cover gaskets want doing at the same time, about an additonal 10 mins!

You dont need ramps, you just need to neal on the slam panel! :y

I changed my first pack this week and it took about 4 hours split over 2 days, it was split over 2 days because it took that long to clean the breathers!
Now that I know what to remove and where I could do it faster but no way in an hour. On the plus side I actually routed the pipes/cable properly so that I can now move stuff in situ to gain access.

Looks like i've started something here, I'm not sure I can be bothered to do it, anyone want a "w" reg MV6 for about £650, It's running "but not as we know it Jim" and sat on my drive having been recovered by the good ole AA
