Hi gays, I mean guys. hope ur all well and staying safe 😎😃
I have tonight finished removing the n/s exhaust manifold to replace the nackered gasket and finally get rid of the exhaust noise I’ve had for ages now.
Firstly what a knob of a job this was. I’m very much not looking forward to putting it all back together 🤮🤮🤮🤣🤣🤣
Anyway rang Vauxhall earlier and the gasket is no longer available, though I was able to order 2 x manifold to down pipe nuts lol
So can anyone help me out and sell me a gasket or can you give me a link to a good online equivalent? I understand the layered steel ones are the way to go. I’d previously fitted a graphite one which didn’t last. But hey ho we live n learn. Cheers oof brothers

Lots of them on Ebay, just search for Vauxhall V6 exhaust gasket. The later multi layer steel ones for non EGR manifolds are a lot more expensive.

Yes, but it will blank off the EGR ports in the head. That's not necessarily a bad thing.
Now would be a good time to upgrade to the later manifolds.....

Thanks Nick. Great idea but I just don’t have any time. Also motivation is wavering with the thought of not being able to run the omega in 5 years with E10 coming in 😩😩😩😩

Why not? upgrade the rubbery parts of the system and get over it :y
The bulk of the fuel system on the Omega is hardlined, so Ethanol shouldn't affect it significantly, and the bits that will be affected are perishable anyway, so on a 25 year old car may well require imminent replacement. ;)

I thought E10 only affected the 2,2 direct injection :-\
18+ year old rubber parts need inspecting and/or replacing anyway

it's still mostly petrol, so unless you drive your car on the rev limiter all the time you're unlikely to notice a difference. Until the rubber parts in the fuel system fail. But that's one of the downsides of running old vehicles

Doesn't matter. If it's lumpy at idle and is slow to accelerate, you wouldn't notice any difference. ;D

Wasn't it E10 that Nige/Entwood to have problems with in French France while towing. IIRC he'd get the management light on while over there

Maybe EML on for knock sensor detecting a bit of predetonation?
I wonder if there’ll be an additive for older cars to use with it?

Millers Oils currently have their VSPe which is for pre cat vehicles, ie. vehicles that initially ran on leaded fuel which offers valve seat protection AND it protects against the harmful effects of ethanol in fuel up to E10. It also stabilses fuel and reduces the degrading of fuel.
I've used the original VSP since the demise of leaded fuel in 2000 in my 60 / 70's classic Triumphs, and more recently their more advanced VSPe for the additional protection against ethanol in unleaded fuels. It is Manganese based, and in my opinion one of the better additives available.
Hopefully, they may develop their fuel additives to protect against E10 in cat equipped vehicles that otherwise couldn't use E10 fuels.

I thought E5 would still be available but more expensive than E10 much like standard fuel and super duper fuel is now?

My understanding is E5 will be available as super unleaded for 5 years. But who knows whether the government will chop and change their mind. I vaguely remember once being encouraged to buy a diesel 🤦♂️

Good job both my Volvos can run on E10 then,as can all Volvos from 1976 onwards apart from the S/V40s with the 1.8 GDI engine-which I believe is a Mitsubishi engine.

Most of the cars owned on here will be bean tins before E10 is the only fuel available.

It is. But it self-destructs long before you'll ever suffer any problems from ethanol. Not to mention that even when it's running properly, it's crap.

or just use esso synergy petrol. its 99 ron super unleaded with zero ethanol content .
its what ive started using now on all mine.
and it also means you can run older cars back onto their original ignition timing settings with no pinking.

No upside whatsoever with that combination. ;D
Having said that. My Porsche was built in Finland, and they are obviously as good at electrics as the French. Almost everything that goes wrong with them is electrical issues. ::)

as a friend said of his Audis(an S6 and A1) - if it says Bosch on it, it will go wrong.
There are a lot of Bosch parts in German cars...

Hi guys. Not bumping but I thought I’d let you know the manifold went back on and she’s quiet as a mouse. Touch wood of course. Putting it back together was an absolute horror show. My only good arm is chewed up to fcku. The gasket I got had of course the 7 holes for the studs but two of them weren’t big enough 😬😬😬 I of course only realised this after fighting with it for two hours 😩😩😩 I then simply opened them up a couple of mil and wallop goes on instantly 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Anyways happy omega owner…… til the next thing.

What make was the gasket you ended up using?
Was it the later multi-layer type with no EGR ports?

I ended up using a BGA one. Not happy about the brand or the type (graphite one with silver coating) but I needed the motor back on the road ASAP and was all I could get quick. Also now the manifold blow has gone I can now hear a dead lifter more clearly. Honestly it never stops. Oh and the drivers side has a small blow on start up but goes after few seconds.
Happy for now but as usual more shit to do in future. And that drivers side looks even more painful with fekking great coolant pipe running parallel with the manifold 😩😩😩
A job for next year I think 👌

Coolant pipe is easily*** removed. You do that before lifting the head with the exhaust manifold still attached.
*** that's easily in that the fiddly bits have nothing to do with the exhaust manifold :y

No. It's probably easier than the passenger side due to there being a lot less stuff in the way.
I changed my exhaust manifolds as part of the head gasket job. To do that, I removed and refitted the heads with the manifolds fitted to them.
I did remove the coolant rail before lifting the head, because it was in the way of something else I needed to undo. But I don't remember what that was ::)

From memory, as its been a while - removing the big shiny coolant pipe isnt difficult. Unbolt support bracket, then possibly with the help of a mirror, undo the two bolts at the rear. Job done.
Then, as nick says, theres less stuff to get in the way, so that fanimold should be easier than the other one.
