Quite possibly blown the gearbox on the S Class :'(
As you know, they can be repaired. A full rebuild, around here, is just short of a grand. Question is, is it worth it? To you, that is.

I don't think these council elections have been as triumphant for the Labour party as the corrupt media are making out to be honest.  ::)
Correctamundo, Donald  ;D

Wont happen Im afraid. The Tories deserve to lose and they are going to.
They need to either disband the party altogether or reinvent the party as a real conservative and unionist party.
Lots of votes for Reform will make the second option a lot more likely.
Most Reform voters would vote for a modern version of a Thatcherite Tory party if it existed.
Maybe they won't lose as badly as some think

Managed to get the bonnet open :y

It has taken a week of periodically pulling the release lever and pushing/pulling on the bonnet.

Need to fit a good battery and see if it starts now.

What can possibly go wrong ::)
New battery I ordered from Tayna yesterday (standard delivery) arrived today.

Need to get of my arse and fit it now.
Fitted the new battery yesterday - wouldn't start.

Gave the battery a good charge overnight, refitted it today and finally got it started - (for the first time in 5 years).

There is something not quite right with the starter motor. Cranking was slower than it should be and my helper said that they saw sparks and some magic smoke - almost as if the starter wasn't bolted tightly to the engine.  :-\ Something to investigate before the MOT.

Once the engine was running I had to shunt it back & forth a few times before the rear brakes would let go. Brake discs look surprisingly good but tomorrow I will get the wheels off and have a closer look.
Spent the day cleaning & checking the thing (MK2 Ford Galaxy Diesel auto).
5 years under a tree had resulted in a mouldy interior. The cheap seat covers fitted by the last owner had grown a layer of fur, I tried cleaning them with a carpet cleaner and the vinyl surface peeled off. 7 seat covers are now in the bin. Seats look OK underneath.
All the seat belts were a bit surprised that I wanted to extend them  ::) couldn't get one to extend at all so will have to pull the trim off to inspect it.
Undid all the wheel nuts half a turn, will get the wheels of tomorrow to check the brakes........
Had the MOT done today by my local garage.
Failed on cracked tyres, binding brakes and a front wiper blade. Advisories for surface rust on subframes and suspension arms.
The tester commented that it appeared to have been parked in a field for 10 years - cheek! - it was only 5 years  ;D
I left it with them to fit budget tyres and free off the brakes and came home in a courtesy car :y
I would say that's a good result  :y

Ye@s, not Estate but Fastback meaning "Short Roof".
So....back to Marks suggestion about the light seal then.

7
That won't fill up the spare wheel well on an estate as it will drain into the rear quarters first... :-\ Unless sooo much water is getting in that it's running along the rear panel seam, but even then it would have to overflow the lip where the latch is. That said, it could be running down the loom between the rear lights, but it would be coming from higher up...

Any evidence of rust at the bottom rear corners of the rear quarter glass? If yes, then expect a hole behind the black trim. Easy enough to access: remove the inner trim from the C and D pillars and undo the twenty thousand 10mm nuts. Window then comes out and you can access the screws that hold the trim in place. Should be possible to effect a decent repair without it showing past the trim... But whatever you do, don't fill the trim with sealant.

The body vents are into the wheel well, but unless the car was reversed into a pond and left there it should drain out through them. Incidentally those vents are designed to open towards the low pressure at the back of the car as it moves forwards and hang closed when stopped. Ignore all of that, it's an Astra, not the Omega ::)
Estate? I thought he was describing a GTC, or hatch.

Relatively inexpensive insurance quotes above.

Being an old bastard can be a good thing at times. :)

Can't wait until I'm 34 and can get cheap insurance!  :y                                                      ;D
After you reach a 'certain age', they hammer you again.

By the time I get to that stage they'll probably be routinely euthanising people of a 'certain age' so I won't have to worry about my car insurance.  :-\  ::)  ;D
Are you moving to Canada then :-\

No but our shiny new progressive Labour Govt will bring it in, and by the time I get to a certain age they'll be offering euthanasia as a cure for the common cold or anything that makes you a mild inconvenience.  :)
Arkansas is looking quite tempting.
Then you can drive a chuggabug  :y

My Mondeo Titanium X's drivers seat is a bit flat as well.  :-\

I've always assumed that it was a cab before I bought it, as although it had a reasonable mileage, a few of the switches like the AC, Hazards and the heated seats, were worn, so I think it had a fat bastard sat in it for hours going nowhere very far.  ::)
Followed by another fat bas large person. Poor car had no chance  :'(

I'm only at the very start of looking at this Ste, but my initial thoughts are to leave the seatbelt as untouched Ford at both ends, which takes care of pretensioners. The only other SRS components afaik are the seat occupancy sensors. Something to be worked out but I'd hope to be able to take across the Ford items.

As I said, still early stage thinking   :y
Buy a cushion  ;D

Are you sure you want to start messing around with airbag wiring, Jim? If you put the light on in the galaxy it could be a bugger to put right.

Can't see anyone spending the thousands needed to put a 1.4 Renault back on the road.
