Title: Thoughts on this rare estate
Post by: EMD on 31 October 2015, 12:05:50
I dont know what to do as ive always wanted the estate version of the Omega and was considering a 2.2 petrol  :-\ Ive been put off buying a 2.2 because ive heard so many stories of head gaskets going  :( But this one would need to have had everything done for me to even think about exchanging mine for it as mine has had everything done and emptied my wallet  ::)

2.2 (http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201510278204154?page=4&onesearchad=used&model=omega&make=vauxhall&search-target=usedcars&postcode=nn171hu&sort=ageasc&radius=1500&logcode=p)

And what does it mean by telephone equipment  :-\

It looks clean enough and same spec as mine , all depends on the crucial service history like proper coolant changes ect on the 2.2 or its going to go pop  :-\ Pity no engine pics as that sometimes gives it away . I'll email them .

Pity I am not down at the caravan...I would have popped along to have a look. That phone number is Blanford Forum area, I think. I am going down next Sunday for three weeks, if you are still interested, and its still there, I will have a look for you, if you like :y
Just checked the number, and he also has a motor home for sale....and that's in Wimborne...even better for me :y

183.5k here on my 2.2, head gasket yet to blow. 2.2's so much better to work on  :y

I change the oil every ~5k - Coolant gets changed every 2 years.

I do expect the  HG to go at some point, as mine does appear to buck the trend.  :-\  :(

I'll have to get Daz or call in favours when it does blow.

Thats the trouble with 2.2 unless the coolant system has been looked after , had the same on the 2.0 vectra where all the waterways had corroded and eaten into the head gasket  :(
Thanks for that offer terbert , ill see what he replies  :y

I know paperwork is a great asset, but to be honest, the guy could be genuine.
To be frank....the Omega's are the first car I have ever kept paperwork on. ;)
I had my Senator for 14 years....never kept a bill.

2.2 HG change is a doddle next to the V6.  Give me a shout when it does go, we'll crack it in a day unless you want the head skimming (there's a place in Fleet that does it for a few bob) :y

Count me in!

Right.. When are we going to break Tunnie's desmond, then?  :-X

The place in Fleet is great. Proper old-school engineering shop where everything comes back honed to within a fraction of a thou but with a layer of fag ash on it. ;D

I had my Westfield engine fettled there. Took it in as a box of bits, and picked up a box of slightly more shiny bits a couple of weeks later. ;D

Could do a pre-emptive repair? ::)

Agreed on the engineering shop.  A real gem of a place.  Even did a Seagull outboard block for me once, he doesn't care about mininum sizes etc.

Well if you want Curry that much  :D

I do need work doing on the 3.2 now, which is:

- Replacement of faulty/dead lifter, I already have a bag of new ones. Kindly donated by Mr MasterDTM.  :)  :y
- New Cambelt, which I already have too! It's a 3.0 one, but Master says the back plate can be switched over.  :-\

I don't have a locking kit, plus I'm not too confident to strip down as far as the cams and remove them.

I'm also liking sound of this place in Fleet, do they do welding? MasterDTM has done great jobs on welding in new exhaust flexi's on the 2.2, but if a local place is proper old skool, they might do it?

Its a lot of work but like i said to you it will be satisfying not to hear that pesky noise all the time . Its never a reassuring noise to a buyer if you ever come to sell the car on either .

Sounds like a plan is appearing  :) You be ok with changing the lifters too?

I'm fairly free from now until Christmas, most weekends are available.  :y

Can fit three cars outside here on the drive at a push, although only one in front of the garage. I will probably trial cam cover gaskets Dbug has used, due to costs, as the millage on the 3.2 is very low at the moment.

I'd stock up the beer/drinks fridge in the garage  :D

Think im going to bite the bullet and keep this car what with all thats been spent on it  ::)

I was advised to change the whole lot, I recall Master saying he thought it was one on passenger bank maybe.  :-\

Best solution would be for me to swap all of mine out, then test them to find the faulty one. Then know rest are good.  :)

Once I've sorted mine, you are welcome to mine for free. Could sort some OOF postage out  :y

Nice one mate , so your not going to just single out the duff one/s with the wooden stick method then replace . Guess i'd replace them all if i had all new ones though  :y

Lifters means cam covers off and cams plus proper refitting with the correct sealants. Shouldn't be an issue if we get started early enough.

I need to my belt (it's overdue)  and I have the kit,  plus a teeny bit of experience changing them  :)

Let's find a suitable date to do them. . If we work side by side it'll go quick.

If you have any spare ones left tunnie , wouldnt mind a few as mine is going to need doing at some point  :( Dont mind paying for them , or are you replacing the whole lot ?

Could not be 100% sure which side it is, since the cambelt is being changed anyway and everything is off. Might as well, unless the suspect/dead one is very clearly identified early on.

Should be with a bit of wood and press/feel for play  :-\
