General Discussion Area / Re: Drink driving question
« on: 27 September 2017, 12:20:35 »
Might seem like a world away from DD, but what if someone was walking around with a gun and shooting the place up....? If the owners know of this person walking about with a live firearm by their side, the campsite whether it private land or not would surely be breaking the law...? I would say that the old duffers think they know better and can handle a drink and then drive their cars .... It shouldn't be allowed and the campsite management should all be held accountable...

BTW I used to go to a campsite that had a lot of static caravans on site, probably 90% of people who go there either own or have use of a static caravan and it is a very close knit community. If you rock up with a tourer, no matter age it is, they have a tendency to look down on you and think they are better....

Jack and Vera was the best comedy act on TV ..... so true to life, when they both stopped so did Coronation Street. Its gone like MindBenders now, and its all about getting 1 up on the next person, affairs and murder. Utter trash and drivel now. It used to be the best SitCom on TV...

Aldi and Lidl products are generally good value and decent quality.  :y

This is true, we think they are cheap stuff but over in Germany and that way, they are like Asda and Tesco's are.... We over here just aren't used to the quality of their stuff... Most of it is TuV approved too....

An Irmy spoiler for a PF isnt worth that much. I bought 1 for £10 for my FL but never got round to fitting it as its a different profile on the bootlid. Never bothered to sell it on either... Same with my genuine Irmy front grille I have too. A steinmetz grille might be worht a tad more than an Irmy item as they are a bit rarer than the Irmy items. Dunno about the foglamp parts though...

Sounds like a strained tendon to me, I did something very similar to my right hand a few years ago, but it was my first finger (index ?) that I hurt... I didnt bother with the hospital though, just knew it would waste mine and their time...

If its only being used for DIAGs on cars (especially VIDA/DICE for Volvo) it will be perfectly fine if you upgrade the memory to its max and also get the biggest HDD you can that will fit.... The IDE drives are still available new, but limited on capacity. 1 Tb HDD should be fine for a while, but does depend on the file sizes placed upon it. Minimum that XP wants to run is 500Mb, it only recognises upto 2Gb anyway so just max it out... If there is new firmware available to flash the BIOS do it, it might allow more to be done with it and possibly make it a bit quicker too... You could also maybe look into replacing the CPU also for a faster chip thats compatible with the motherboard/BIOS, if its possible...

Iv still got an old 386 PC that runs perfect and actually boots up quicker than my main PC, it doesn't like to connect to the interweb though.... LOL

I was once curious to see what WBAC would give me for my old '94 L plate Astra F 1.4 LSi....

£60 was the valuation before inspection BUT £30 of that would be for 'administration purposes'.....

I sold it privately and got £100 more than I paid for it 7 years before .....

General Car Chat / Re: Battery or alternator
« on: 19 August 2017, 22:59:09 »
I have a quick test to check whether its battery or alternator.. might be a bit unconventional, but it works everytime...

Get the engine running, then remove the earth cable from the batttery.... if it keeps running, the alternator is fine, if it stops the alternator needs replaceing....

It can however, cause a bit of damage to the alternator, so do this at idle....

« on: 13 August 2017, 21:30:48 »
Thanks for the advice on the router, I'll take a look at buying 1 in the near future...

I jumped on YT and thats solved my problem, so looks like its OK for now...

Problem I had was the old router needed restarting - no exxageration - 20 times in 1 day.....!!!!

I had to threaten to cancel my contract with VM to get them to come and change the router.... idiots...!!!

Does anyone know how to setup port forwarding on the newer V3 Superhub that VM supply please.

Iv recently had to have them come out to my VM box and the 'engineer' replaced my older box with the new V3 box, but now I can't get to setup port forwarding for remote viewing of CCTV

With an announcement, not that long ago from Volvo where they are not going to produce petrol engined cars after 2018 (?), I reckon that petrol engined cars will be left behind and the hybrid's will be the future... Once hybrid's become the 'norm' Hyrdrogen engined cars will be the future.... I reckon it'll be within the next 50 years that hybrids and hydrogen engined cars will be the 'norm'...

Electric only cars would need to be able to do long distance - say 400 miles on a single charge, before they become popular enough to weed out the hybrid's....
