Apologies if this has been asked and answered before but here goes, i love my omega mv6 but its sick, to cut a long story short it wasn't pulling properly when putting my foot down, misfiring 1,3,5, so changed coilpack spark plugs, took it out put my foot down and it did it again eventually found it was a completely collapsed back box took it off and no problems what so ever foot down bat out of hell, been fine for 8 months, then Tuesday I made a completely rookie mistake at 0 christ hundred hrs in the morning grabbed some oil from the garage and put it in, thought this looks a bit thin and put my glasses on to see it was 5/40  oil ( I think ) so after getting home from work changed oil and filter and put correct oil in, now the engine light comes on i have spent all day today trying to get some help, one garage said codes says misfiring on 1,3,5, another says its cause I put wrong oil in it, and another one said some codes but didn't know what it was, its shuddering,  idling now at just 500 and I'd say a loss of power, it's a beauty and any help would be greatly appreciated,

I wouldn't worry about the oil too much, as 5w30 and 10w40 are the standard specs. You've got a custom blend ;D If it does worry you, then spend the £12 for some 'proper' 10w40.

Time for some proper diagnosis: read the fault codes and deal with their causes; check over the entire ignition system as that's likely to be the problem; inspect the inlet system for air leaks; timing belt check is probably a good idea; what state is the rest of the exhaust system and cats?

I won't try and blag, i only know bare minimum about cars, but the rest of the exhaust is ok other than the shuddering/ power loss no leaks, rust, smoke ect from anywhere, apparently used  before me by a pilot who drove it to and from airport and garaged it barely had 100 thou, miles on it when I got it, I'm only up to 125 thou, full service history etc I'm going to have a good look through see whats been done ect,

Whereabouts in the UK are you Charlie. May be a member nearby who could help.
As Nick says, topping up with 5/40 oil shouldnt cause a problem. Assuming you didnt tip loads in there and the engine has far too much oil in ?

Dont know of any members down that way unfortunately. Most common problems come from breather system not being cleaned out, which causes crankcase pressure. This then causes failure of the camcover gaskets, which allows oil to leak into the plug wells and damages the coil packs. Pull both coil packs ( 2.6 / 3.2 engines) or pull plug leads if 2.5 / or 3.0 out and check if everything is swimming in oil.
If it is report back for advice. If its all nice and dry, you need to get the fault codes read and then report back.
There is a diy method of reading the codes known as the paper clip test for 2.5 / 3.0 engines
and one called the pedal trick for 2.6 / 3.2 engines.
Dont know what engine you have, but both methods are explained in the maintenance guides section.
No harm in having a go yourself and see how you get on.

Which part of Somerset? Southerner - South of the A303, Midlander - Between the A303 and M5, or northerner - North of the M5?

I'm Yeovil, but work in Somerton if it's any help.

Hi everyone after the balls up with the crappy garage today managed to find out what was wrong with the car,  managed to get it into the bloke who did my coilpack and sparks when last misfiring and he said he thought it might be air leak somewhere after hunting around the engine he found it 😀 and it was a tiny lead as you look at engine manifold just underneath it is a little elbow shaped lead about the width of a bic pen popped it on and took it for a spin all good no misfiring and back to normal thanks for all the help guys, love my car back to taking off like a rocket 😀

Is that not the vacuum for the fuel pressure regulator valve ?
That would definately cause weird running and mixture issues ?
