hi anyone know where to get nearside rack pinion? got mot today been to get 2 tyres fitted and both track rod ends need replacing and nearside rack pinion which goes upwards cheers

that's what the guy said, its got steering box of course.its like a track rod end going up from centre link and next to track rod

MOT fail, so what exactly is on the fail ticket? Were they advisories?

It's unclear exactly what is meant by 'rack pinion', I would assume the nearside steering idler arm, sometimes call a drop arm. Connects the centre tie-rod ball joint to the chassis.

hi haven't had test yet it was national tyres mechanic who fitted 2 tyres today got test this afternoon at kwik fit.the guy just gave me advice after checking steering on the ramp as I wanted front wheels balanced said he couldn't do it as track rod ens both sides need replacing and that part you mentioned must be that the drop link idler.thanx I can get the part from parts motion for idler 42 quid I checked but ill wait till mot test done then ill know whats what thanx mate

If you're taking it to Kwik-Fit then expect your bill to increase massively 
they will probably fail it on the tyres you had fitted this morning too

IF . . it fails ,   (almost dead cert to fail at KF ),  Post up the fail issues and members on here will advise the best solution/s  to get it through test .

Advice here IMO is  : Don't let them do the work ! ! !

For future reference IMO   . . give KF a wide berth  . . .full stop !

I would suggest taking it to a different, preferably not a chain, garage for a retest before doing anything else...

As I read it  .  .test is not being done until today  PM  . . .so probably no fail sheet as yet

Ah yes

If it's booked at KF or National tyre etc, except a long list of spurious fails followed by 'It's dangerous so we're going to keep your keys unless you let us 'fix it' because you can't drive it home.

Best advice is to cancel the test and book it into a small, independent garage

hi gents .IT PASSED MOT   kwikfit £40 advisories  1.anti-roll bar ball joint dust cover deteriorated nearside front. 2. anti-roll bar linkage ball joint dust cover severely deteriorated nearside rear. 3. anti=roll bar linkage ball joint dust cover severely deteriated offside rear. 4. track rod end ball joint has slight play nearside front [tie rod) .that's it boys

Well done , but a quick, cautionary observation note,

The Omega doesn't have any ball joints on the rear antirollbar.

Advice would be to obtain a set of wishbones/track rods/front droplinks from ATP vie ebay for £74 delivered.

Fit the track rodsand front drop links and keep the wishbones for a rainy day (these can be upgraded with poly bushes and genuine rear bushes before you need to fit them).

That way, you'll cover all the possible advisories on the front, a quick geo set up to reaffirm the tracking and you'll be good to go.

The rear roll bar links are a push fit into rubber grommets. Leave well alone unless they're noisy.

for the rear they probably saw the track control arms and saw a dodgy cover there but who knows ? ?
