There was a debate in the EU parliament last week on the whole issue of Brexit, with a bill presented by the commission to be voted on.
The bill was passed - they always are, but some interesting facts emerged from this process.
There were (iirc) 14 amendments put forward to try to protect British interests to some extent. The amendments covered many things, including removing the proposed Spanish veto if they don't get power over Gibraltar, protection of both EU and British citizens rights during negotiations, stopping the EU from banning the UK from speaking to other countries about free trade agreements before we have left the EU etc. etc.
The contingent of British Labour MEP,s voted against every single amendment which was tabled, and voted with most of the rest of the EU to attempt to damage the prospects of their own country.
The odious Mandelson was in Germany at the weekend telling them not to concern themselves with thinking about treating Britain fairly, but to look after their own interests.
In an ideal world I would love to see each and every one of them charged with treason, but I hope that people will never again believe *Labour politicians when they say they love their country and that they respect the will of the people, or any of the other soundbites they spout in front of TV cameras.
* Apart from the wonderful Kate Hoey MP and the impressive Gisela Stuart MP.
