I know a few South Africans and whilst all try to get back as often as possible to see family (given high cost of flights) and all clearly miss the landscapes, weather and wildlife they also agree on their reasons for moving -better job opportunities/better services/less crime. Speaking to any of them, very clearly there are an awful lot of places where its not advisable to go. And there is no "racist " leaning here either. The young white South Africans I know are very anti-racist and the one young black South African I know has the same views on his country of birth. (Whilst those of my generation probably hold similar views about South Africa given the high profile of the anti-aparthaid movement in the 80s, its interesting to note the views that South Africans of that same generation and younger held of the UK . Suffice it to say , they were not terribly accurate nor very comlimentary and very stereotypical
. But then I guess we are all guilty of that when the majority of our information comes from TV or newspapers. At least the net now provides us with a greater range of opinions upon which to form more balanced judgments?).
