As I'm planning to give the rear donut bushes a go is it better to do this while I've got the diff lowered for the rear springs or should I put that back up and then do the bushes?

If you have time, get yourself some good TiN coated drill bits. Far tougher that ordinary HSS bits.

Cheers, I got the other ones on order but I'm still keen to find genuine, if I can find them and afford them.

Does it still have SL?

The snapped studs - drill them out and use nuts and bolts.  Needs decent drill bits, not the 10,000 bits for 50p egay shite.

I take it you mean self levelling? The compressor runs sometimes but I don't think it's doing much if anything. There is a pipe going to the back shocks but they aren't actually connected into anything so I'm assuming it's now defunct.

Need to get a set of drill bits as I looked at the manifold and there is no way I'm attempting to take all that out with the car 1 inch above my nose, and also risk snapping more studs.

Any recommendations for good set of drills don't want to buy chinese stuff?

Got a broken rear spring and in the process of removing them I noticed an ident LA on each spring. Had a look through the forum and it looks like the LA identifer is a mystery that VX does not seem to have a part no for. Before I started removing them I thought the ident would be long gone so ordered a set of KYB that I've seen mentioned on here. Are the KYBs ok for the elite now that I think on it.

Springs still look pretty good nick, well apart from the broken one, the coils are still relatively black with little rust.

One of the centre sections and the back box is toast so I removed them but the 4 bolts between cats and centre section have all snapped. I don't see any other way to remove the studs but remove the cats and to get more access, tried some heat and no joy.

To remove the each cat is it the 2 plugs for sensors and the 2 upper bolts to remove from manifold? Any other little sneaky things hiding waiting to take the skin off my knuckles?

Changing both centre sections and back box today on elite, all 4 bolts snapped on the centre section join so going to be a fun afternoon!

Have you got link to that on ebay, can't finds it, I take it it is new part?

The coolant pipe/Thermostat for V6 engine - the one that welds itself to the thermostat housing with the bracket that snaps off - part number 90411629 (I think) - on Ebay at moment

HBV is quite new so not suspecting that either.

I wouldn't completely dismiss the HBV, as my original on my 3.2 lasted around 80K miles but it's replacement lasted less than 5K miles. The replacement was purchased from a main dealer and the box had the hologram on it. The second replacement was still OK when I sold it. Worth checking using the max high temp, max low temp method.  :y
There did appear to be a duff batch a few years ago, a few people, myself included, got caught out :(

I did get 2 new ones a couple of years ago with GM numbers on them, hopefully mine's isn't one of the duff batch.

I just got my coolant pressure test kit in there so put it on and pumped up to 15psi, I can see water dripping down the back of the engine, just forward of the heater matrix pipe sort of down onto the back of the box.

Will need to strip out the plenum and stuff to investigate further.

Thanks for all other suggestions so far. Will have a check round other bits while I'm at it with the test kit.

Last couple of months I've been loosing coolant, got to top it up after say 50-100 miles back up to level, usally when light low coolant light comes on. After a run the other night had a good look underneath, left it sitting for a while on my drive, couldn't see any drips anywhere, had a good scour around engine bay with torch no sign of anything. Done block test last night and nothing showing, not that I suspected HG but just ruling it out.

Last year replaced rad, oil cooler, hose from block to heater radiator also replaced the top rad fan switch, still got the lower one to do, also replaced the aux water pump under the coolant bottle as it was leaking, that was last Year too. Also checked the floors for any water ingress, bone dry. Only thing I can think is maybe leak from oil cooler plate and it's running down the back of the box or something and I can't see it. Made sure I used the right sealant and that everything was clean and torqued up properly so be surprised if it's the oil cooler plate leaking, although if it was that then perhaps it is dripping out when the car is moving and then pooling somewhere in the V when stationary, then pouring back out when I'm moving so I don't actually see the leak.

Hopefully get in on the ramps at the weekend and get right under it. HBV is quite new so not suspecting that either.
