Don't you just love them :y
Should have bought one years ago. :'(
-
I've used them, and can't see the point on an engine with a drain plug. They're not going to work on a gearbox or diff which is full of gears.
There are better things to buy/use/keep
-
I bought a Pela for my Smart ....no drain plug fitted.
They're the future :y

Drain plugs?
-
Never used one and hopefully never will.
Luddite ? Me ? How very dare you. :D
-
I've never used one, but can see the attraction especially where the oil filter is in the engine bay, so there is no need to jack the car and crawl underneath. :)

i did once buy one from lidl. draining out the oil via the dipstick tube was ok , it worked a lot quicker when the oil was hot. let a friend use it & never saw it again.

crawling under the car allows you to do the basic visual inspection that is part of the service schedule. That's a good way to avoid BFO.
I prefer to make gravity empty the sump rather than hope it's sucked dry. There are better places for that.

100% agree :)
I also think that a garage or MOT tester should get the blissfully unaware driver to see all the bits that are falling off/badly worn etc to better educate them on the need for regular checks
not that that will happen :(

If the filter is easily accessible in the engine bay then worth a go.
If under the car not much point......

Mine has a suction tube (I suspect an afterthought of what to do with the dipstick tube it was probably initially going to have ;)) and a sump plug.
Like Nick W, emptying the oil from sump plug is my preference. But the 20,000 screws holding the undertray on means invariably the pump is used.
-
I wouldn't use a pump on a car without a dedicated suction tube. Relying on a flexi tube down a dipstick hole is going to end in a half arse job, best case scenario.

As above, my Smart Roadster doesn't havd a sump drain plug so the oil has to be sucked out. I'd to remove the dump pan so used my Pela first, there was next to no oil left in the pan when removed.

Don't let NickW do an oil change on your car - the last thing you'd see would be him disappearing under the car with the power drill so that gravity could do the work.. ;) ;D
