So Fraser Longden the COO of Wickes, the DIY chain of stores has said "shoppers with trans-critical views are 'bigots' who 'are not welcome in our stores anyway"

Is this a Gerald Ratner moment? Why comment at all? Just stfu and welcome any customers who want to spend money.
He was taking part in an online gay/trans event but of course his comments got picked up.

8.7%......down from 10.1%

However, food inflation is 19.1% and we all have to eat. :-X

Tell me about it. Prime beef filet in my local butchers is now £52 per Kg    ::)

I've just been in the local CO OP, the Lurpak butter is in alarmed plastic cases which have to be opened at the till  ;D
I haven't had a Ginsters pasty for ages, but I remember them being about £1. In the same CO OP, 50p off, £2 instead of £2.50.

What's the deal with Lurpak butter?  :-\

I don't get it either. It's 'orrible. That style of butter is very popular across the channel

Easiest way to defend your car from being cloned is to fit a unique sticker to the inside of the windscreen. A workplace parking permit is a good example.

Have a clear picture taken of you standing next to the car, with the sticker clearly visible.

Then if you're ever accused of being naughty 300 miles away, then you can happily go to court and demonstrate that whilst it was indeed a similar vehicle, it was not yours.  ;)

Although, given your propensity to fall for various scams, it may be simpler to just not have a car in the first place.  :D

I could actually adapt to life without a car. I really don't use mine very much, but the Mrs does, quite a lot.
I'm in Brum soon for a few days. £8pd clean air tax, £20 per day parking, just paid £270 AA breakdown cover etc etc.
My son (well into his 30s) doesn't drive and seems to manage ok, but he does live in London.

Just slightly off-topic. This was impressive . . .

But I do wonder about the falling debris

I don't understand what this is all about, I mean he must be travelling around London all the time. I think we'd have seen something before if this was normal procedure.
That's a lot of coppers. Extinction Rebellion nutters or something ?

I don't get excited about phones. As longs as it has a reasonable quality "feel" and works I'm happy.

For quite some years I've been sim free and buy outright and gone for whatever is mid-range Motorolla (currently on a G8 Plus) at about £200 or so and just replace it every 2/3 years. Works for me. I'm just not sure what an expensive handset brings to the table.

"plastic surgeon"? I'm puzzled , i would expect an orthopaedic surgeon. But in reality, most competent doctors of any speciality should be able to deal with that.
But hey, good result  :y

I hope you all enjoyed your Easter egg hunts after church this morning, and are now feeling sick as dogs from all the chocolate you've eaten!  :)

I have to say I liked the shops being shut yesterday.
Roads were dead quiet.
No point in thinking "we haven't got . . . ." or " I Need . . .  ."
Just chill and have a good meal, and just possibly a decent bottle of wine
All after getting back from Church of course  . . . . ::)
We seem to be missing serious down-time in this country, apart from Christmas Day & Easter Sunday. I quite like Sundays in France, almost all retail outlets shut, apart from Boulangeries in the morning and restaurants for lunch.

We have three, maybe four, Indian restaurants within walking distance
The best one, packed at weekends and quite busy during the week. Often can't get a table.
The others, empty & struggling.
But, point taken. I often wonder about the "cost of living crisis".

General Discussion Area / Flying? Is it me or what
« on: 02 March 2023, 00:04:49 »

Before retirement I used to fly a lot both work and leisure. Mostly USA and Europe.

In recent years however I seem to get ill, maybe not every flight but very often. Coldy, snotty, fluey thing. Just back from a week holiday. Fell ill two days after arriving. Sore throat, snot, drippy nose, cough. Just about ok to fly back with lots of medication. Still coughing up gunge.

Is this now a thing that is maybe being kept quiet? or is it me? It doesn't happen when I drive abroad.

All I know about compressors, is that I bought one in Lidl some years ago thinking it would be useful EG: Spray painting a garage wall for starters.

It's never even been plugged in  ::) The curse of Lidl middle aisle strikes again.

(I used a brush )

British Gas.  They move my account to a new platform, but there is no app available for that yet, apparently.

Surely, in this day and age, an app should be developed alongside any platform, not an afterthought.

Fikkin' useless mongrels, suspect its a punishment for giving them the piss-off pill over smart meters.

Not sure why I'd need an app. They* give me a pipe and gas comes out. That's all I need :y

* - Well, not British Gas, as it happens.

I've just booked a holiday.
Lots of pressure to "download the App" to access flight details etc
What happens if I drop my phone down the bog, or get it nicked, or flattened by an elephant, or whatever? I always carry old fashioned printed paper as well as any "App". Also, I'm getting old, what happens when I can't do Apps?

Oh dear this whole saga . . .
I don't know what to believe or disbelieve. Everything we think we know has been presented to us by the media seeking headlines. Dodgy pictures, TV interviews, fake, real, or photoshop images.
Quite frankly, I don't give a toss. I only know that I get fed up with media speculation. And, even if, he's as guilty as hell is he really going to end up in clink? I think not. "Dirty Bertie" . . . . Edward VII had a special "Pleasure Chair" in Paris, designed for errrr . . . well use your imagination. So none of this is exactly new.
Whether invented or real, I have other things to concern myself with.
