At Armed Forces Day? . Despite watching multiple uk news channels, I failed to see any coverage. Maybe there wasnt any? Quite disappointed as I was in Scarborough two years ago but couldn’t make it today.

Been watching McCartney for the last 10 minutes. He really is dreadful.
Done nothing of note for over 50 years now, and living on past glories ever since.  ::)

BBC cant be giving airtime to that old nonsense. Glasto is on dont you know.  ;)

Which does rather beg the question as to how you watched the later 9 minutes 59 seconds :D

I watched it right to the end in a mix of slight nostalgia, but mostly morbid fascination of a living legend destroying his own classic songs, because his ego wont let him retire with dignity.  :)

SWMBO has always been a fan of McCartney so we watched it some was good & some not so good but for a man aged 80 thought he did extremely well

For his age I also thought he did extremely well.....but he still wasn't very good.

Frank Sinatra also went on too long because nobody dare tell him he was past it. :D

Lenny Henry like to race bait so has decided Glasto is racist.

It's only racist if black people are not allowed to attend, Lenny.

Exactly!! :y :y :y

I thought my hero, from the greatest band ever, was fantastic aided by other great artists. To perform like that at 80 is amazing, and certainly created another milestone for this fantastic music festival.

No of course he lacked the three other Beatles, but at least he teamed up again with the spirit of John Lennon for a reminder of what this groups magic was, which with the many Beatles songs they performed was made clear :-* :-*

Keep going Paul :-* :-* :-* :-*

Having played guitar for 53 years, and having seen quite a few really great artists over the years, I can assure you he most definitely was.  :)

Bit early for Panto. He was shite at the opening of the 2012 Olympics  :-X

Indeed. Thankfully I was at the closing ceremony rather than the opening. Hving said that, the remnants of The Who demonstrated that night that they should have packed it in when Keith Moon died.
Then there were the Spice girls doing a wonderful impression of five cats being strangled at the same time.  ;D
But back to McCartney. He has done absolutely nothing worthwhile since the Beatles. Obviously addicted to fame / adoration.
Even Springsteen and Dave Grohl couldnt save him.  ::)

Were the Beatles worthwhile then? I must have missed that memo  ::)

They certainly were. Musically and culturally. And they produced a really great songwriter in George Harrison, who was unfortunately overshadowed by the ocean going sized ego,s of the two lesser talents in the band.
They would never have become what they did though without George Martin. His musical knowledge and production skills were a very big part of their success.

I'd have given baby spice 20 minutes of my time 20 years ago, before she found where the biscuit tin was hidden.

Yes, DG is a naive youngster who would not appreciate the wonderful music created within that great Liverpudlian band that changed history. ::) ::) ;)

Their songs still being performed 60 years later speaks for itself,I detect a lot of jealousy from certain comments but accept bitterness from some who are not happy with their lot.😟

As I wasn't around when they were fresh, new and controversial, they've always been just generic, boring music to me.

Every time she is mentioned I cannot help think about Jim Davidson’s Diana Ross joke…..

My Dad played in various Big Bands, culminating in Jeff Laycocks Big Band. They tried to go professional and appeared on Hughie Greens opportunity knocks. They “ won” playing Norwegian Wood that was a George Martin but I think written by Harrison/Mcartney. I say won , as Hughie took them to one side and said they couldnt afford to bring them all back so you can come second! I still have the EP they produced. They didnt go professional. Probably for the best as Big Bands went out of favour sadly.

The crowds are determined to enjoy themselves no matter what the acts are like. Bloody good luck to them, it's good to see people having a great time like that. I, for one, wouldn't criticise anyone who got up in front of a massive audience like that.
Best 'old' group I have seen (on tv) at Glastonbury was The Cure in 2019. The set was brilliant from start to finish. Robert Smith can hold a crowd in the palm of his hand and I forgot just how many hits they had.

Im ignoring Glasto now and watching the Eagles on SKY arts. Sounding half decent considering Don Henley is the only original member left in the band.  ;D

Glenn Frey is selfishly staying dead.

The rest of the lineup is the same as it was for much of their fame.

His son has replaced him and Vince gill is alsonow in the lineup. They also have Stuart someone or other on guitar. Very competent but hes no Don Felder.
Timothy B Schmitt (on Bass) joined when Randy Meisner left after Hotel California.
The only two left from the Hotel California ers are are Henley and Walsh.
Their fame certainly predates Hotel California. The greatest hits album was the biggest selling album in the world before then.
Personally I think they also made their best music before Hotel California, when they were a country / rock band.

Got to agree with you Steve 100 percent the artists were there to entertain & that they did , too many folk nowadays ready to criticise, what they really need to do is ask themselves is what have they achieved in their probably very sad & boring lives.
