Omega General Help / Re: Omega Dti quandry
« on: 16 December 2011, 21:28:48 »
Still feeling sentimental over the old girl - 9 years and 140,000 miles are hard to forget - so looked around for an engine.  So far the only quote has been £645 and then I've got to get it fitted.    At the other end of the scale I've been offered £150 from a scrap man who says he has an immaculate 2.6 V6 in his yard for £600.

Omega General Help / Omega Dti quandry

Hi Everyone, the headgasket has gone on my 2.2dti and possibly the mains bearings.   Do I scrap the car or replace the engine?  I've spent a fortune on her this year already.   Just when I got the car right the fan belt tensioner failed and the belt popped off and to cut a long story short the damage was done.   The car has done 140,000 miles and has been a brill car over the last 9 years.   To compound my decision I am getting a company car in February so will I be throwing good money away repairing a depreciated asset?    Any advice will, as always, be appreciated.

Omega General Help / 2.2dti fan belt

The fan belt has come off on my 2.2 dti and I need a diagram of how it goes round the pulleys so I can put it back on.   Does anyone have a diagram or photo that could help me?

Tried Admiral and they worked out dearer than insuring both cars with Churchill.   Even when they say they will give a 10 or 15% discount they want over £800 for two cars - considering I am the wrong side of 55 and got my Omega covered for less than £300 I think nearly £600 to insure a 1.6 Mazda that will only do around 3000 miles a year is excessive.   I can only drive one car at a time so the Omega would be parked up when I drive the Mazda and vice versa.

I want to insure a second car alongside my trusty 2.2dti.  I have a full no-claim bonus which is used on the Omega and makes my premium just under £300.   I want to insure a little MX-5 and thought that on a multi-car policy I would be able to put the two cars on one policy and apply my no-claim bonus to both cars - especially as I will be driving one or the other, not both at the same time.   All the online sites want me to insure one of the cars with full ncb and the other with no ncb making the 2nd car's insurance too expensive.   Any oofers have any suggestions on how to insure the second car cheaply?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Heater died

It's the heater fan unit that has seized up - a more and more common fault or so it seems - look at listings under General Help.

A garage will charge a couple of hours labour plus parts.   On fleabay s/h fan motor is around £30.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Electric memory seats
« on: 27 February 2010, 23:53:41 »
I put full leather memory seats in my CDX last year and found invaluable info on this site on how to wire the driver's seat.   At the time The Boy posted the guide just as I posted my version of a "how to" for anyone trying to fathom out the wiring at a later date.

Like every thing it is easy if you know how but if not search the OOF site and someone will answer the query.

had the same problem and sent the battery back to the supplier - turned out it had a faulty cell that kept breaking down under load but checked out ok on a meter - put a new battery on and now no more problems

I bought a cheapo unit on fleabay which didn't work - I then paid a bit extra and got the deluxe model which does work - pm me for details as I don't think we are allowed to discuss it here

if you cut one of the wires from the 2 going to the terminal on the switch block you then connect the blk/wht from the mid plug to one side and the blk/yel to the other - make sure you have the right relay under the bonnet and it should work.   I can't beleive I've lived without this mod for six years - thank you OOF

ps you might need to change the relay under the bonnet to one that responds to the delay time

have you swapped the wires on the mid plug - you will have a blk/wht and a blk/yel wire left over.  On the main plug to the stalk there is a terminal with a blk/wht and blk/yel wire.   Cut these wires and join to wires from the mid connect in series.   PM me your email and I'll send some photos.   I did mine last week and after a bit of trial and error I have variable intermittent.

I bought a stalk and relay off fleabay and after fiddling with the wiring on my 2002 CDX and changing the relay under the bonnet have variable delay of 3 secs to 10 secs - is there any point in overcomplicating the modification of the relay - there are plenty of scrappers with the right relay in.

if the engine is running the alternator will put out more than enough power to run the fans etc without draining the battery - if everything is off when the key is out and the battery goes flat when the car is NOT running then there is either a drain on the battery or there is a fault with the battery.   I soldered a blown fuse onto a couple of wires and connected it to a multimeter, then plugged the fuse into all fuse sockets till I found the drain.  But seriously check the battery and the alternator first - it is normally the simplest solution that is the right one.
