Market meat....
« on: 26 May 2013, 23:49:32 »

Have to ask the question...is market meat ok ;)
When we are at the pikey van, we often go to Wimborne Market. There is one of these mobile butcher lorries there, and he seems to be selling what looks like nice meat really cheap. Was selling rump/sirloin steaks today and they looked well nice. Wifey always steers clear, and makes some excuse for not buying. Seems to me there are some bargains to be had, but I admit, I have just that nagging doubt in my mind.
Surely they have to be a certain standard. Its not like Del Boy with a suitcase. I assume these traders are a mobile part of a high street butchers, or am I wrong :)

I always use a Butcher or a 'Meat Van' for everything from Bacon to Joints of Beef.

As always, you get good ones and bad ones, but even the bad ones are far superior to Supermarket crap.

We buy our meat from local farmers either in their farm shop or farmers market. Beef from one, lamb and mutton from another, and pork from another, in fact we also get boar bacon the taste and qualitiy of the meats are excellent and you know the people who reared the animals. :y :y :y

We do go to the local butcher as well when need arises :y :y

Yes agree with that - supported the farmers market for some years now - we avoid the meat vans although I cannot recall having seen one round here for some time - they will still probably still pitch up at Blackbushe market

:o I used to do some work in the grainger market in Newcastle, some of the butchers stalls were a bit ropey, even the market inspector said he would steer clear of some of them!
