Ignition cut out at about 7200/7300 RPM.

Sounds like my old 106 , bloody thing stopped when it felt like it  >:( Although quite revy and fun when it did run right  ::) I did wonder what the saxo vtr would be like  :-\

Wow. Does that have the engine from Fireball XL5. :D ;D

Its Best before date would have been 3 years ago lol.

Plenty of motors out there which will be to fast for you for that money that will also last far batter.

Nope.  My first car was a Renault 5 GTL 1.3, that I used, abused and thrashed within an inch of it's life!  ::) 

It just refused to die and it was the rust that got it in the end.  A great little car!  :y

I had a Renault 20 TS auto. It was great. People told me it wouldn't last long because French steel was shite.

It didn't last long because the cams kept rounding themselves off. French steel is shite. ;D

Reality is, Renaults have always had issues, I recall when the old man worked for them and the list of electrical issues was horrific....then of course, they used to rot (less so these days actually).....so the trick was always buy the base models and learn to weld.
