If a car is a high miler, even though it's fairly young, what difference does it make if it's been used as a taxi? If the service history checks out ok and the upholstery isn't full of puke, then it's the same as any other car that's had a hard life. The price you pay should reflect this. I would be more put off by a well-used shin breaker.

I would think that a taxi does most of it's work around town which is more detrimental to the car than the same mileage on the motorway.

Also, Al was a taxi driver/owner so looked after the taxi/his car far better than some reprobate who doesn't give a shit because the car is not his property.

Any used car in London would never have been out of third.......

Wouldn't touch one of those with yours... and that one screams ex taxi :-X

Speaking of which, I wonder if the new owner of a gleaming white Mercedes estate is aware of it's history?..... ::) ::) :)

 ;D
I emailed the vendor this pic...

...Just to be clear ::)

I'm sure that he shared that pic with all interested parties Al!  :D  ;D

It,s not often that I reply to a question on here,BUT it was the the best thing that I had done when I decided to by my Mondeo.
It,s hates filling stations,50 mpg no problem, tows my caravan like it,s not there, drives like a sports car when you want to push along.
My next car will be ..........another Mondeo!     Love IT,

If ford sell 10,000 mondeos, Alfie, and 50 of them go wrong with the same fault, you'll certainly hear about it. Ask anyone who owns a French car.

Petrol model yes, diesel, noo.

to add, turbo actuators, water pump/power steering separation, chain tensioner wear, aux belt pulley disintegration.

Did somebody mention dmf which clogs up the starter with fine dust..

To caveat that, I wouldn't buy a TDCI, but if you can find the much lower tech TDDI then you'll have fewer issues. I bought mine (2001 GhiaX hatchback) knowing the DMF was knackered for chump change with 75k on it. I had it because I needed something cheap to get me between Loughborough and London each week and then be parked on an east London backstreet.

Beyond the DMF (£750 but known when I bought the car), it cost me a battery, plus routine maintenance in 65k. The car had full leather, heated and electric, sunroof, cruise, climate etc etc. It wasn't refined but returned between 45 (winter) and 48 (summer) the whole time I had it. I only got rid of it when I started doing up my current house and needed something even bigger to put DIY materials in.

As others have said, they have their problems but I think the tinternet overexaggerates these when you consider just how many mondeos have rolled off the production line over the years. If you find a good one, they make very cheap (if somewhat unexciting) transport options.

I read the fuel consumption was poor , between 25-30mpg . Thats not poor thats good  :D After taking a few trips back in my mates 98 mondeo estate i was impressed how nice the ride was and pretty spacious  :) Not the square shape model , the one with the fl rounded bumpers .

Bottom arms/bushes used to be a favourite failure point on mondeos.
