At lest I think it's the 2.0 :-\

2.0hdi is almost bomb proof if maintained properly

Then wtf am I thinking of 😂

There's a pug engine where it runs too hot and sludges up the oil. That coupled with a tiny gauze filter in the turbo inlet line that has to be modified (or completely removed). They blow turbos all the time and still do even if u follow the exhaustive turbo replacement instructions?

You are thinking about the 1.6 HDI/TDCi (the one in this thread), the early iterations of this engine are sensitive to oil changes. ABSOLUTE MAX 12000miles intervals or it probably will gum up the oil feed line and bugger the turbo. And if you don't remove that gauze filter and change the oil lines the new turbo will be fooked soon. I believe one of the reasons is the relatively low oil capacity of 3.75 L. But idiotic service intervals past 12k is probably the main issue..

Lots of VAG kit on longlife  20k intervals die early too :-X

Thanks for clearing that up  :y

We won't even touch turbo replacements on these. You get a two page document with a new turbo on all the things you have to do to maintain the warranty. I'll see if I can find it...

Just as a side note the early 1.6 HDi will go for along time if serviced.. I've seen ones with 150k miles on the original turbo.

I still think the old 20hdi is a harder engine, seen several with way past 200k miles and still good :y
