General Car Chat / Car buying
« on: 26 January 2020, 23:08:51 »

Went to but a new (used) car for SWMBO yesterday. Evans Halshaw, cardiff

SFO for old car, admittedly very old with a lot of issues, so no surprises there

But, staggered by how much time and effort went into trying to sell us stuff we really didn't want. Didn't even understand what most of it was. Some kind of extended warranty, asset protection insurance, AA cover, some kind of bodywork coating thing. All of it would have been over £1k. Declined everything, so a senior manager came out to try and do better than the young lad. Dug heels in and no to everything. But over 4 hours to buy a car!

I'm happy with the car and end result, but it's hard work constantly saying "no".

General Discussion Area / My conspiracy theory
« on: 27 November 2019, 13:55:18 »
Let me indulge in a bit of a conspiracy theory. Be patient

It is likely that either Labour or the Conservatives will win the General Election. If Labour wins Jeremy Corbyn will be Prime Minister and John McDonnell will be Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Marxist John McDonnell is on record as stating that he wishes to "ferment the overthrow of Captialism". As far as I am aware, this has only ever been done by undemocratic means, and on a long term basis has never succeeded.

Jeremy Corbyn has a verified record of publicly supporting terrorists, and not supporting UK interests. Even recently, he criticized the killing of a leading Jihadist in a miltitary encounter.

On the face of it Labour and it's "many not the few" is all about fairness, care, compasion etc.

Wait for it . . . . .

How about it is actually about removing our democratic system and imposing a totalitarian state?

Impossible? Nonsense? Think about it. He wants No 10 by any means. He is making impossible to keep pledges, promising anything to anyone for their votes. Why? Because he will not need to abide by them in future plans.

Where'e my cave to live in . . ?

General Discussion Area / HiFi dithering
« on: 27 November 2019, 10:09:22 »

I just "happened to be passsing" a high end HiFi shop yesterday. Much of my existing kit was bought in the late 80s.

I been threatened with something very unpleasant if I start messing about with things in the house before Christmas, but my credit cards are twitching. The kit I am eying is over £1k (just amp + speakers), that's after a £200 trade=in deal.

Oh dear I need some distraction, I may not be able to resist . . .  :-\

General Discussion Area / Another stupid question . . . probably
« on: 02 October 2019, 10:36:11 »
I wanted to cut some thin metal. you don't need to know why. In B&Q I spotted a sort of kit that included what looked like pretty strurdy tin snips. It was about the same price a tin snips on their own.

However, it came with some other gizmo. I have no idea what the other gizmo does. Looks like some kind if thing for making holes but also has a screwdriver head set.

Any enlightenment out there ?

Website calles it "Aviation Snips" but on the pack it's "Metal Frame Set"

General Discussion Area / How to tell . . .
« on: 31 August 2019, 23:05:33 »

My house has a front drive, fairly straight forward. But also has a sort of drive down the other side with a bit of parking. All publicly accessible.

Recent piles of S**t around the back. Dog ? Human ? No idea. Wondering what to do. Gates - a bit overkill and pretentious. Cameras - So what ? even if I see something can't do much about it legally. Thinking about a motion activated gattling gun, but could get into trouble. Chilli spread around ? Hmmm quite expensive.

So, how do you tell dog poo from human ? They can be very similar in size.

General Car Chat / SHELL
« on: 03 April 2019, 11:18:28 »

I've been a loyal user of V Power and before that Optimax for ages. Why ?

I actually think it's good, but at a price. And, the Shell loyalty scheme was good being able to convert into Air Miles/Avios. I used to a get a long weekend away now and again out of them.

However, no longer. Instead ( Whooopeeee    ???  ) you can get money off in-store purchases. No thanks, it's all overpriced in the first place. So, goodbye Shell . . . .

General Discussion Area / Stupid Question - Amazon Echo/Alexa
« on: 15 December 2018, 07:14:20 »

Thinking of getting SWMBO one for Crimbles. Are any subscriptions or whatever required ? Any ongoing costs once the unit has been bought ?

I looked but not seen anything, but hey this is Amazon, there may well be something hidden there   ::)
