When they're not waiting for the owner to afford the latest round of repairs.

Mitsubishi is Japanese for 'you won't believe how much the parts cost. Or how many you'll need. Or how often'

Looked into buying a Shogun a few years ago , read owners comments & how much repairs cost ( especially the auto box) put me off completely, shame because I still really like the look of them.

Used to always get Shoguns as hire cars on holibobs. Very, very hateful pieces of shite.  Ride and performance of a LR Defender, though marginally more comfortable.  Loads of them had shagged transfer boxes as well.

Glad I read owners reviews which were obviously correct judging by your experiences.

Gatwick ran a fleet of them, some had 200k miles under them.

The thing is they require regular and frequent maintenance, which makes them expensive to own. So people don't bother and they fast become unreliable. Hence the reputation.

Shoguns aren't as good to drive as a Discovery, and are no more reliable. But unlike a Land Rover, fixing them is harder and paying for the parts is an eye-opener.

That is quick.

My Tata would run low twelves  at Santa Pod although the terminal speed was 122 MPH.

Rear drive only so little grip or traction for the first 100 yards. :-\ :-\
