Tried a genuine JLR keyfob case, as the cheap chinky egay one was shite.

No improvement ;D

So put the innards back into the huge, heavy, chunky one, with its rubbed off legends and peeling rubber. All good again now, apart from have to guess what the 5 buttons do.

Not sure if I mentioned it, before I went on holibobs, changed 3 of the 4 glowplugs on the battlebus. And changed its oil.  It must have thought it was its birthday.

It wasn't it's birthday.  So it should be grateful for what it gets.

One of them is never coming out, it started to shear last time I changed them, so I knew it was pointless buying 4 ;D

Doubt it, as no matter what I do to that thing, its indestructible.

Its a constant shit to start. But it always does start. And keep going.  At this rate, due to the amount of use it gets, I'll be calling in on that DTM fella to get him to clean out the intakes again.  I know how much he loved doing that job last time.  I'm sure he muttered something along the lines of "I can't wait to do that again" ;D

Just ordered an electric die grinder so I can fine grind the welding on the front wings of the Austin , have some twist  lock 3M discs . Have air powered ones but my asthmatic compressor can't keep up ,  spent the last 2 weeks making them fit and repairing the patches I did 40 + years ago .

Could be worse, like a 1.0l Ecoboom that's now 10 years old. So the timing belt is due. Yet another reason to detest the thing.
