Morning all, as this year is the 25th anniversary of the launch of the Omega B, We at ABS are inviting OOFers to join us at Sywell for the weekend, 5th-6th-7th July
For booking, go to the VBOA website, click on the drop down box and select Autobahnstormers in the club name section
It is also the 20th anniversary of the V8 cars HSV,s) so we will be mustering as many of those as well as we can

Will have to see if that meeting can be managed :y
-
Will be attending, will be nice to take an Omega, for a change :y
-
I'm no longer an ABS member so guess this isn't open to none VBOA members to display cars?
-
You are being invited as a guest of ABS so book in and on the what club drop down bit, click Autobahnstormers
Let me know and I will let our field know who is from OOF
-
Does this have to be all weekend to join ABS as a guest :-\
or is one day parking on the ABS stand available for just saturday or sunday ?
quite fancy VBOA this year in my 2.6 but not all weekend
or should i just buy a day pass and just park where ever :-\
probably other OOFers may want to do one day too
-
If I can make it then it would only be for the Sunday as I can't do more than the one day.
-
The option is for what ever you would like to do
Sunday is the main show day but if saturday is best for you, not a problem
-
Excellent
thank you for the update :y
-
Is this the Sywell round the corner from Billing? Presumably a camping weekend?
-
Yes and yes unless you want to come along for just a day
-
Tickets and hotel,booked :y
-
If we don't come in an Omega, are we still allowed to camp in the ABS field. I don't think my camping gear fits in the Omega, seeing as some eedjit fitted a fikkin' huge LPG tank in the boot :D

If you take the Jaaag, you won't need camping gear... Decisions, decisions...
-
Cant see a problem but will ask
-
would like to come for one day is this ok. :y
-
Go onto the VBOA site and look up day pass :y

Sadly wont be attending, not only my work / Uni commitments; long story short (as poss!)...
-costs are up versus when it was in Harborough Show Ground
-LMF bankrolled the VBOA Rally when Billing gave the VBOA the finger - literally saved the VBOA National Rally
-VBOA then 'arranged' a new deal behind LMF's back for 2019.
-The list of 'what's on' at the new Sywell site rather bizarrely almost all the 'attractions' consist of nothing to do with cars.. family fun day, events, face painting type stuff etc.
-The LMF / Habrough regime offered less 'family' attractions, they hoped it would be more about the cars, the people, autojumble etc. meaning less kids drizzling molten ice cream over very rare precious automobiles. However, it would appear the 'family friendly' regime is returning.
-Autojumble not confirmed as far as I'm aware, I have checked, though I hope it will be on for those who go
I MUST stress...
these reasons have NOTHING to do with the people on this site, nor the people of ABS and the excellent way both are managed. It's literally nothing personal, I just can't justify the money for 'maybe' an autojumble, (last year all the bits I got off the autojumble were actually off Keith ABS, which I didn't actually need to do there and then, couldn't easily popped over to his warehouse of treasure any weekend of the year! :D)
But again, my bestest wishes to those who go and hope all have a good time. I shall make my annual pilgrimage to the NEC Classic Motor Show and see the ABS stand and anyone else who's about. :y
-
There will be an autojumble. I am booked in for it.
Perhaps I am the only one, so happy days :D :y
-
Hope you have a good weekend, and brings in plenty for yourself and the club's coffers, old bean :y
PS Glad to hear the Autojumble's on.
-
However, it would appear the 'family friendly' regime is returning.
We are in an age of millennial parenting, so they can only go if little snot goes and screams and runs riot.
As predicted by yours truly back in the late 80s (where my comments were along the lines of 'these kids will become parents themselves in a few years, then we're oppsed')
-
As long as they don't touch my car, they will be allowed to live >:(

this.
I'm not going to make a blanket statement like "my parents were the last generation of good parents" because clearly there are still decent people in the world being born, but at the same time thats not far from the truth, as I was brought up with 'speak when youre spoken to', 'look dont touch', 'eat what you take & take what you eat'; 'respect your elders', 'if you want something you have to earn it'.
Christ, when did I get old? And now people don't respect their elders, so I don't even get any respect! ;D :D

You forgot, breaking any of those said rules earned a clip round the ear. And if your parents subsequently found out, a bloody good hiding as well.
The stupid naughty step hadn't been invented, and parents knew trying to reason with a child was a waste of time.

Will this be happing

-
Will that be the Corsa,s and Astra,s covered in plastic body kits that blow their engines an catch fire on the runway/drag strip Trev?
-
Was wondering Keith is sywwll going to happen as it's caught fire, ??
But yes that wouldn't be a bad thing a big chav jelly mould fire. :D
-
We will be on the airfield.
The fire is in the buisness park adjacent to it
It is fenced off seperatly from the airfield if memory serves from when I did a jumble there a while ago
-
As it is now just days to go before this event, here are some instructions for those attending.
Main gate, you should be asked what club, so Autobahnstormers.
When at ABS field, let our people on the entrance that you are OOF guests
Weather looks good and not as hot as the last two years
Although we have publisised this in the club as the 25th anniversary f the Omega and 20 years of the V8,s, we have no idea how many will be there
-
Will be unlikely that I'll be in the Omega as it still needs fixing[again!] and with little time to test it beforehand I'm not sure I can trust it to do the [roughly]120ml each way trip.Might run down in the Volvo 960 as a visitor though.
-
Going to bring one of the Omegas, the VXR8 can stay at home,as the last time I took it to the VBOA there was very little interest in it. But the very small number of Omegas that were there saw a steady stream of lookers.
-
See you there mate
-
Did Luton Festival of Transport, a few weeks back, and bumped into a few familiar faces, too as KeithABS can attest! :y
Shan't be at VBOA this year, Luton was a belting day out and cost us next to nothing, versus what we've costed Sywell to be just ain't worth it, sadly.
Might see a few ABS/OOF members at NEC this November, work permitting, hopefully :)
-
Is it expensive to get in at Sywell then? Or are you adding in fuel/food/maybe something from the autojumble costs?
-
I pre paid,£19 which covered both days, plus £90 for the onsite hotel....didn't fancy doing the 80 mile drive up twice over the two days, plus there's going to be the end of day piss up,no doubt ;)
-
Without a doubt :D :y
-
Be rude not to :y
-
Working. :'(
-
No change there then Trevor :'(

Hi
New member here. (Not the right area for a 1st post, I know....sorry)
Not to be honest much of a poster as I don't really get on well with keyboards :-[
So with that in mind I thought a better way of introducing myself would be to join you all down at the VBOA meet! Great idea I thought!
So I booked the time off work, paid for three days camping, filled an Omega with fuel and a tent and then, today, proceeded to spend over six hours traveling the 170 miles of many, many traffic hold ups and heat to reach Sywell.
Hooray arrived at last!
Except that upon arrival to be told by someone on the Autobahnstormers pitch that there was not going to be room for my son and I as non members of ABS. An offer was eventually made for us to pitch for one night due to lateness of the hour but we would have to vacate the following morning.
Needless to say we were not happy with the cold reception we received and as such left. Dissapointed by the experience we felt only the need to turn around and return straight home.
Good start :'(

Have to say, that's a very disappointing response (from whoever was acting on behalf of the ABS - not you!), unless they really are expecting the site to be rammed. Not exactly the way to attract new members. And if it is rammed, it surely brings into question the wisdom of moving from Mk Harborough/Billing in the first place (which is a VBOA decision not ABS, but still).
-
Such a shame :(
Please don't let that put you off Posting on here
it's an excellent forum if you have a an Omega ;)
I met a few ABS members when they used to have a monthly meet at the services at Donington years ago
very nice people , though I've never joined ABS
was there no general camping area for non club members ??? to over-spill into
I was going down today as a day visitor but won't if it's rammed
at the recent OOF Brackley meet everyone left a parking space between cars without even being asked
(which saves door dents and scratches etc) I was very impressed :)
Lovely bunch of friendly people too

Seems when ever anything, is on I'm working,, It's that bloke sod's fault. :D

That's very disappointing, and makes me personally a little angry. However, without knowing the facts - maybe the ABS site was fully booked, or as booked as the H&S lot would let them - I'm sure their is a good explaination.
I haven't been an ABS member for 10yrs or more (but still attend the local monthly meets), but it seems its run well by pragmatic individuals.
-
Well, that was a total cluster f#ck.
Sunday night VBOA finally realised site plans.
Excellent we thought, backing on to the jumble.
I would be able to be on the field as well as selling.
Wednesday night, ABS area got moved to almost the bottom.
Friday morning on arrival, our space had been cut by over a half
I was not on the field to see, help out with any issues
We protested strongly to the VBOA that we did not have enough room
I am sorry that you felt so aggrieved that you decided to go home Mr E
The space was not what we usually get and we always have room for additional people, hence us asking OOFers as guests
We have photographic evidence of very large spaces allocated to other clubs that had no cars until the Sunday and very few at that
I don't do mobile internet so this has been the first chance of posting since the event
-
Having attended also,I did think that we were a bit tight on available space, unlike previous venues. That's a big old airfield, but as Keith says there were clubs that had bigger plots and fewer cars,I think they will have to sort this out for next year....that's if we go back there or move on to another venue. :-\
