BTW, I think it's got a little more than a V6 under the bonnet...

i went to a local rally not too long back, parked up my car and my mate pointed out a holden commodore in dark red in the car park, i went over and had a nosey, like ya do

Yes it is, apparently the side windows are the same part - not sure about the doors though. The main difference is just that its a few inches wider.

The two black seams along the roof are where Holden cuts out the Opel roof and inserts their wider panel. A similar job is done to the floor pan, dash, front & rear cross-members, and the engine cradle. In additiCon to the increased interior space, it makes room for that honkin' 5.7 liter V8. Man, would I love one here in the US. I may end up getting a Pontiac G8 version of the Commodore in a few years.

I have to make a correction, this particular one apparently doesn't have a V8. My brother in Australia who knows about this stuff sent me the following:

Model VZ (denoted by large lion in grill)

But no V8! 3.6 litre 195KW ECOTEC (not 3.8L) 4L60E trans, 3.08:1 ratio rear axle.

Police equipment for W.A. is called RPO “BT1”

And includes; FE2 (sports suspension)

            G80 (LSD)

            Premium brake package

            Fine gradients on speedometer

            Illumination for speedometer when headlamps are off

            Additional wiring for two way radio

            Noise suppression package for VHF radio

            Heavy duty steel wheels with no wheel covers (so they don't lose them in pursuit work, and additional cooling to brakes)

            100W high beam with suitable wiring to avoid volt drop

            SS Interior (seats, steering wheel etc.)

            ABS, SRS, all the safety bullshit

BUT NO V8!


A few years ago, a couple of young coppers were killed in high speed pursuits, so the police hierarchy decided no more V8's Also they realised they were a cheap source of performance for young buyers. But all other states have V8's.
