Good manners
« on: 27 September 2016, 17:51:42 »

I always find myself slightly annoyed when someone - often a newbie - posts a query, and, this being OOF, nearly always receives one or more helpful replies, yet frequently the OP never replies or responds in any way. Very bad manners, to say the least, IMO. >:(

Sign of the times I think. It annoys me too as I was brought up to be courteous and polite.

One of the reasons I moved from London was that I was getting fed up with people, particularly younger people being so rude. I know this sounds old fartish, but it never used to be . . . . . blah blah etc.

I go to France quite frequently, and with the exception of Paris, people of all ages are just so polite and courteous. It really is not unusual for youngsters to nod and bid Bon Jour for no reason whatsoever, they don't know us. It's about respect. The French still have strong family bonds and traditions like eating together etc. Sunday everything is closed, it's a family day not another shopping day. We're losing all this, sorry, we have lost all this.

I do business with French people, wine business  :y  Emails are always Dear  M ????? and very formal, even if I know them and have visited them. All a bit old fashioned but nice.

Responding on forums is similar, it's about respect.
