Hi everyone.  I recently bought a 2.5 V6 estate and was wondering whether 18 mpg around town is normal?  I think my thermostat is faulty (running cold).  Do you think this would affect mpg?

I get around 21-22 knocking around with my 3.0 litre, think 2.5s are supposed to be better on fuel. Wouldn't have thought a thermostat would affect the mpg.. Air Pipes leaking can cause lower mpg, I would be looking at those first..

i have a 2.5v6 estate tourer i get about 24 to 27 round town a lot depends on how heavy footed you are

Running very cold may affect many things, thermostat change needed.

on a light thrash back on my 9 mile commute, got my average to 24.1 mpg  ::)

was 25.2 when i left  ;D

3.0 Estate  :y

Engine doesn't reach operating temp so ECU keeps the fuel enrichment (Choke in other words) program running because it thinks the engine is cold.

Thanks for all your help. It's obvious my engine needs work. :-[

I just got the car so I don't know when it was last serviced as there was no service book.

I'll have to face those mechaincs again. Oh no :-X :-/ >:(

Forgot to mention.  I drive really economically.  Did some advanced driver training and have been driving since the eighties.  I look really young for my age though!  ;D
