Can the timing belt and water pump be changed on a 2.2 petrol without a locking kit?

Omega General Help / Now what?
« on: 11 January 2024, 14:11:39 »
I now have a problem with my Omega where it sometimes locks or unlocks with the remote and sometimes doesn’t , I’ve changed the fob battery twice in two different keys and now have a new main battery but this hasn’t solved it. If I unlock it with the key the sounder and alarm go off until I start the engine - not ideal. Any ideas?

General Discussion Area / Why does it always have to be this way???
« on: 11 September 2023, 17:58:08 »
So having set aside this morning to change the oil and filter on the old girl I got to work at around 9 this morning.Warm engine, all tools out of the shed, car up on jack, axle stand underneath, drain plug out easy, didn’t spill any oil, filter came off by hand (surprisingly, it’s normally a struggle) new filter, new oil, start up, check level,  all good. That went well, I thought, and at that point I should have packed up and gone in, but no, not me! “I might as well put that new fuel filter on that I’ve had for a year or two”
Oh dear, do you think the old one would come off? Even with the proper removal pliers the connectors would not give in. Eventually one clip fell apart enough that it gave in and came off, I got a face full of petrol even though I’d removed the fuse, the other side ( from the tank) would not budge even though I again managed to destroy the clip. It seemed the filter was rust welded to the pipe. Having gone this far there was no turning back so using brute force and a large pair of pliers I eventually got the filter disconnected, more petrol in the face and eyes - it really stings!
New filter came with clips so now just a case of pushing it into the connectors and off we go - all done! Fuse back in, start engine, no leaks, great! I’ll just check those connectors are tight - the one from the tank immediately pulled out and gave me another petrol shower, pushed it back on but now it would not stop gushing! I then found some small o rings that must have come out of the connector but no matter how I tried to put them back in it still leaked. At this point I decided to stop and come back another day, and order a new connector. Then I checked on here and someone said they are not available, great! As I was packing up I remembered seeing the hatch in the boot floor when I last had the carpet out, I lifted the hatch and there was the other end of the pipe and I could see the connector, “Why does this have to be so complicated.?” I thought, and it doesn’t! One length of fuel pipe and two jubilee clips later (luckily I have use of another car) and away we go! If only I’d thought of it three hours ago!

Omega General Help / Restoration
« on: 01 February 2023, 09:59:50 »
Now that my Omega is coming up to 21 I think that she needs a bit of restoring, do we have/know of anyone who can do a bit of rust removal (drivers door sill, ns A pillar, plus a few other little bits) a few small dent removals and a complete re spray for a sensible price? I would prefer someone sympathetic to the Omega cause but any recommendations would be welcome. I’m in the Surrey/South London area but would be willing to go further afield for the right person. Cheers.

Omega General Help / Lumpy cold idle
« on: 08 March 2022, 00:17:21 »
Can anyone tell me what is causing my 2002 2.2 petrol to have a lumpy tickover from cold, almost to the point where it cuts out, it’s fine once it’s warmed up. Thanks

Omega General Help / 2.2 petrol exhaust manifold
« on: 05 May 2021, 13:41:12 »
I am hoping someone could help me locate a supplier for an exhaust manifold and fitting kit for my 2002 2.2 petrol. I have been in touch with buycarparts.co.uk who kept insisting the one they had was suitable, even though their own website said it was for a 2 litre model, they eventually admitted defeat when I gave them the part no (24420438). My Vauxhall dealer can get one from Germany for £197.98 but say they can’t get the gasket. The only other option is to have the crack in my one welded, but I’m not sure if this can be done in situ, and if I’m going to the trouble of removing it I may as well put a new one on. Any ideas?

Omega General Help / Windscreen trim 2002 2.2 petrol
« on: 06 August 2020, 19:20:16 »
Does anyone know if the windscreen surround rubber trim is available new? I had a new screen fitted but this part wasn’t replaced, and as mine is now 18 years old it’s a bit worse for wear.
Thanks

Omega General Help / Hose query
« on: 28 July 2020, 17:59:39 »
Hi, can anyone tell me what the hose is attached to the bottom of the pas reservoir, it starts off rubber then goes in to a metal coupling then on to a long plastic pipe that comes all the way round the front of the engine. Mine has perished at the rubber part, does anyone have a way of repairing it or do I have to buy the whole part. I’ve tried using the number stamped on it but no luck.
Thanks

Omega General Help / Check engine light
« on: 11 June 2017, 12:12:36 »
On a fast, fully loaded trip back from North Devon to Surrey yesterday my check engine light came on while accelerating away from a set of lights. The car ran and still seems to be running normally. I disconnected the battery to try and clear the light but no luck. The pedal trick did not work. Any ideas? 2.2 2002 petrol auto.
Thanks.

Omega General Help / 2002 2.2 petrol exhaust
« on: 20 July 2016, 15:51:45 »
After 14 years my Omega has finally got an advisory at an mot! "Small hole in exhaust" Although traumatised I suppose it is time to fit a new one. Should I go to a main dealer or are the Gerlach ones on e-bay any good? Only need it from the cat back.

Omega General Help / Rough Start
« on: 17 April 2012, 08:49:42 »
My 2002 2.2 auto petrol (62,000 miles) has just begun to start up as if it is running on 3 (or even 2 and a half) cylinders.
As it shudders the check engine light slowly comes on. It will then run normally after a minute or two but the check engine light stays on. It will drive as normal from then on, the next time I start it up everything may be fine (no light or misfire) or light and no misfire or it will have both again!
Any ideas please?

Omega General Help / Opinions please, transmission fluid change?
« on: 04 January 2012, 14:41:43 »
My 2002 2.2 auto has done 61,000 miles, the gearbox works fine, I do less than 4,000 miles a year at the moment. Is there any point in changing the transmission fluid, is it quite a simple thing to do at home (access, draining/filling etc) Or should I just leave well alone?

Omega General Help / wheel bolts
« on: 30 December 2011, 18:39:59 »
After a puncture yesterday I have found that some ham fisted tyre fitter has cross threaded one of my rear wheel bolts, I used a new bolt but the thread was immediately mashed up. Can anyone tell me the size of tap I need to clean up the thread in the hub please.
