Omega General Help / Help with action re. codes, please.
« on: 06 August 2017, 19:28:42 »
May I request some expert opinion and/or suggested action re. the following codes, please?
Both the pedal trick and my cheap code reader come up with these codes.
0100
0150
0155  According to the guide these refer to O2 sensors and MAF which  I presume account for the MIL being permanently on. I'll have to tolerate the O2 codes for the moment but wonder if the MAF code can be eradicated and whether it would affect the points mentioned below.
0300
0302
0304
0306  These are misfire codes and probably account for the following. From a cold start the engine fires up fine but then stops accelerating briefly and then suddenly roars away normally. (like a rocket in fact). It can happen several times during the first 1/4 mile but there is then no repeat during driving until after a fairly long stop. During these hiccups the MIL flashes for approx 10 to 20 secs., presumably registering the misfire codes, and then returns to its constant display.
I'm going to change the spark plugs and possibly the 2,4,6, bank coil pack as the prime misfire suspects, but I don't know whether the MAF code would have any contributory effect on this symptom.
Does this sound like a sensible 'trial and error' procedure before considering a change of MAF? My son is taking the car and tin tent to France at the weekend so I daren't try anything which might immobilise it.
Expert comments would be most appreciated.

Thanks Doc G. In the words of Tommy Cooper-'Just like that!'  ::)
Seriously, you've given me a little hope and I'll give it a go to see if I can suss it.
Cheers.

I've got the 'no disc loaded' message but my changer is inserted with 4 discs in it but can't be persuaded to eject. Dave DND has confirmed by email that there are no longer any spares available for NCDC2013 so they seemingly can't be repaired.

Omega General Help / Re: Meguiars PlastX Polish

I used a similar polish kit on a spare headlight and got a reasonable result and I'm sure Meguiars polish will be very similar.
I then did another spare following the maintenance guide on here, (using grit papers), and achieved a much better final result.
You have to be brave at the beginning but it does the job well.

Just to put this one to bed, this job has been completed due the incredible generosity and assistance of James, who travelled up here, (or is it down), to dig me out of a little mess. 400 mile round trip!!!  :D   I think he must love me.  :D
The car is now going like a bat out of hell again. The man's a genius.
Thanks yet again, James.
Bill.

Scrupulously honest also!

Go on holiday? Look up an old flame? Get away from SWMBO for a day.
Not JamesV6CDX. He spent last Friday doing just that to help me finish my cambelt job when I got a little stuck. The man is a star of the highest quality, especially bearing in mind that he isn't quite as agile as he was due to his accident.
We had a great afternoon ( well! 2 hours actually), sorting things out and if I could have got hold of front discs and pads late in the day he was going to do that as well. I learned a lot and am eternally grateful and very impressed.
Thanks again, James. You can go back to working on your own stuff now.  ;D
Bill.

Hi James,
Nice to hear from you. I hope you are continuing to improve injury wise.
Thanks for clarifying the business of adjusting cams 3 & 4. Seeing Mark adjusting the centre idler without appearing to first loosen the Torx bolt threw me, even though logic told me what I should be doing.
You are a star of the highest order and I will pick your brains again if necessary, but I think I've got it cracked now thanks to your advice.
Will get back to it tomorrow, Sunday, weather permitting.
Thanks again,
Bill.

Need a little advice please.
Cam locking tool dropped into place on Cams 1 & 2 but 3 & 4 cams are slightly advanced. I'm not sure how the idler adjusters work. Do I have to loosen the centre torx bolt before adjusting the idler position, obviously tightening it again when correct position is reached. The video shows Mark adjusting the upper idler position to adjust cams 1 & 2 without doing this.
I can't work out how to retard cams 3 & 4. How do I do this?
TIA

Excellent advice which I shall follow absolutely. The same way I check doors, windows and lights at least three times before I leave the house.

Thanks Robson. We wrinklies have a lot to offer this forum if only we could remember what it is.
I'll report back out of interest if I survive the ordeal.   :y

Robson. Your profile doesn't show your age but I can assure you that such confusion will get worse and worse and worse as time goes by.  ;) The cooling system has always been well looked after with correct anti-freeze so I don't think I'll do the thermostat and transfer pipe on this occasion. My only experience of this job was at a meet at Timbuk's place many years ago when I watched Hotel21 struggle for two hours to remove the transfer pipe from Kate's Omega, having to resort to brute force in the end. But thanks for the suggestion.
Jon. Thanks for the offer. If you recall it was the front bumper that had taken the hit (the wings are both OK), and I've got the one from the gold estate which you kindly gave me, and the one from Minifreek which you saw me repairing. (This latter is now nicely primed up and I must say I'm very pleased with my efforts on it, especially as it was done with spray cans). It will be sensible to ask a paint shop to do the final finish though, and then try to find the time to fit it. Don't hesitate to let me know if you want to witness any part of my losing my cambelt virginity.  ;D
Regards,
Bill.

Hopefully I'll be able to allow for that. If not, watch this space!  ;D
