White Goods Thread
« on: 09 January 2023, 17:53:49 »

My freezer has thrown a wobbly and everything has defrosted or partially defrosted.  >:(

Everything is still very cold though, so I'm wondering if I can get away with refreezing it all, or should I chuck everything out? or just chuck out stuff like pork and chicken?  :-\

It's a pink question I know, but having survived several deadly diseases and various escapades with motorbikes, cars, gliders, explosions, diving, riots, hookers etc, it would be a bit tragic to get knocked over by a bit of dodgy chicken!    ::)

TIA!  :)

cook everything and eat it all if it's still cold or part thawed  :)
anything you can't eat ,it's all cooked then , so freeze it
assuring you have a working freezer  :-\ and just did a "Turbs" turned it off by accident  :P

I don't think I closed the door properly last night.   :-\  :-[

So not only have I lost a lot of food, it's probably been running like the clappers ever since trying to keep the temp down and my next leccy bill will bankrupt me!  :-\   :o   :(

In that case, you can freeze the stuff down relatively quickly, it's only been warming up for sub-24h, and has spent most of that time frozen anyway I'd re-freeze it, myself. Just make a mental note that it needs cooking immediately, and thoroughly, when it's next thawed.

Seconded ;)

Obviously, if it is more defrosted tomorrow then a new freezer is required  :y

Where's Tainted Tony when you need such advice ;D

No option but to use what you can now, and bin rest.  Unless, like me, you have a sister you don't like much, in which case, refreeze it, and then donate it to her.

Actually,, if you cook the defrosted meat, can you then refreeze it again?

Only a woman would know the answer.

Yes. And it's actually quite an efficient way to do batch cooking. Cook everything, divide it into (man sized) portions, and then re-freeze. I use those plastic curry trays/pots you get from the takeaway. Then when you want to eat something, defrost overnight in a fridge, and heat the next day in a microwave. 10 minutes in the microwave will use a lot less leccy than cooking a meal properly each day. Boil up some rice/pasta/spuds on the hob and jobs a goodun.

One thing often not mentioned in batch cooking reports is to make sure you label the portions as you put them in the freezer. If you don't then meals just become freezer lucky dip - you're never quite sure if tomorrows tea is going to be Liver and Onions in gravy, or Chicken Phal, or Spag Bog.

Only a woman would know the answer.

So a quick postscript.

It turned out that my freezer decided it didn't want to be frost free any more and is now a frosty model. It had frosted up and jammed the fan and once I defrosted it normal service has been resumed.  :y

Luckily I never got round to taking my old noisy but functional F/F to the tip and has been lurking at the back of the garage for some time, so I fired it up and froze everything again.  I'll sling some of the grub out, but most will be OK.  :y

I just need to remember to defrost it from time to time.  ::)
