Omega General Help / Re: 2.5 V6 exhaust
« on: 07 July 2014, 19:13:52 »
Thanks for the info, I'll have a look at ETS too.  Next problem will be the front section - cats still work fine, but flanges on them and the middle section are knackered which is why I was wondering if there is a repair section available that will enable me to save the cats.

Best to fit Eternal. £120 odd cat back  :y

Unless I'm looking in the wrong place Eternal don't seem to be listing much for the Omega at the moment, mainly just fitting kits?

Thanks for the pics Rob, I can see the differences between the two now.  I expect those stainless ones will be beyond my budget, but do you know who makes them?

Omega General Help / 2.5 V6 exhaust
« on: 06 July 2014, 15:33:55 »
Could anyone tell me if there is any difference between the exhaust on the saloon and estate models of the 2.5 V6 or if any of the front, middle and rear sections are interchangeable.  I may have to look out for a second hand system for my estate, but saloon spares are easier to come by.

Also, does anyone know if a repair section is available to replace the flanges between the cat and middle sections?  My exhausts are pretty good apart from corrosion of the bolts and flanges at this point.

Omega General Help / Re: Blower problem - won't turn off

Get a good used one - either an Omega one or one from an Astra G (same part) - new is very expensive ;)

If its the 'hedgehog' thing I need I've seen them advertised on eBay from £22 to £500 for new units - presumably pattern and genuine.

The water that came in in the winter has knackered the speed controller. You need to replace it.

Thanks - is the speed controller the same thing as a 'hedgehog'?  Also, does anyone know if this is an MOT issue?

First thing to check would be the scuttle drain (passenger side). If blocked, the scuttle cavity fills with water and eventually spills through the pollen filter and into the passenger side footwell, via blower control electrics (including hedgehog).

If this is the cause you may be lucky if you clear the blockage. Impossible to tell until you try.

Good luck

The cavity is completely unblocked - I had to unblock it over the winter as there was some water in it (not sure how high the level got before I realised there was a blockage), but the cavity has been completely dry since then and the blower has been working ok.

Omega General Help / Blower problem - won't turn off
« on: 23 June 2014, 10:38:56 »
Was driving along quite happily the other day when the blower in my 1996 2.5 V6 CDX suddenly turned itself on full power - now it is stuck on permanently and I can only turn it of if I pull the fuse.  I've had a quick look on here and fleaBay and have found mention of a radiator fan and heater motor relay (a 40V orange unit, part no.90459640), and a heater blower regulator (part no.90512510 and other numbers) which I'm assuming is the unit also known as a hedgehog.  Is it likely to be one of these units that's causing my problem or would something else do it?  Also, does the car have have both of these units fitted or is it just one or the other on different models/ years?

Lastly, is a faulty blower an MoT issue?  I've got one coming up and have other jobs to do to the car for that so would rather leave the blower until afterwards if possible.

Thanks for any help given.

Omega General Help / Re: 2.5 V6 Estate exhaust system

The saloon and estate exhausts are not the same.

Interesting...  I thought that at least the front section with the cats was the same for both saloon and estate?

Omega General Help / 2.5 V6 Estate exhaust system
« on: 15 July 2013, 19:49:27 »
Hi All,
I'm expecting my 1996 estate to fail its MOT on Wednesday due to corrosion on the exhaust system, the flanges on the front sections with the cats being particularly bad - I've also had some fibre glass? strands coming out of the back box recently so suspect thats breaking up internally too.  As I may have to replace the whole system I was wondering what systems are currently recommended, ie:
1) are there any cheap aftermarket ones out there worth having?
2) are any stainless systems recommended?
3) are genuine GM systems still considered to be the best (I've heard thet the quality wasn't what it was with these)?
4) does anyone, particularly in North Devon have a system to sell?

Also, is some or all of the system for the estate different to that for the salloon?

Lastly, can anyone give me some ideas of what a reasonable system is likely to cost (possibly using a TC card, which I don't have yet) - I fear the answer to this question  :'(.

Thanks for any advice offered.

General Car Chat / Fancy an Omega hearse or limousine anyone?
« on: 14 November 2011, 23:03:26 »
Anyone looking for something a bit different?  Just seen an Omega based hearse and Limo for sale in Cornwall.  Both are low mileage, blue, automatics, and well maintained (I guess they would be - can't imagine the breakdown boys doing a cemetry run!).  Not something that comes up every day.

I quite understand - I may have a look into courier charges this week and see if I think its worth the risk.  Thanks again, Graham.

Sorry I have't been able to respond sooner.  Unfortunately Wolverhampton is too far from me to collect - I don't suppose a wing is something you'd want to trust Postman Pat with?

Might be worth posting a wanted ad up,someone might even have one the right colour. :y

Sadly I'm unable to post a wanted ad on this site as a minimum of 250 posts are required before this is allowed.  Shame as that is a really useful part of the site.  I've got another 210 posts to go before I qualify - I suppose I could sit up all night posting garbage, hmmmm.......
Place it in the "test" zone with a polite request for admin to move to relevant section

Have done so and the ad has now been moved to the appropriate place. In my haste I forgot the polite request, but my thanks to the administrator involved and to those who gave me the advice.  I'll see if I'm lucky with any replies, otherwise it may have to be a silver wing - they seem to be rather common....
