Yeah, you'll need small torque wrench to do cam covers - IIRC, they are only around 10Nm (don't have book of lies here to confirm). And a man's torque wrench for normal stuff...

Yeah, doesn't seem to be on Mark DTM's list in the maintenance guide.  Machine Mart lists a 3/8" drive torque wrench for 16 quid, but range is 14-110 Nm.

I have the misfortune of visiting Cov at least once a week with work.....if it wasn't for the shoddy workmanship on my Estate I would have called in and pointed at a few bits whilst tutting loudly for you
Oh well, worth a try!

Halford's has a 3/8" torque wrench with a range of 8-60 Nm.  Seems ideal, except that it's 50 quid!  Argh!  I don't want to spend that much on something that I will rarely if ever use again.  May not have much choice the way things are going.

Aha, score!  Mate in Kent who comes up this way on Thursdays is back from Greece and has a 4-20Nm torque wrench.  Sorted!

Now what is that torque supposed to be for the cam covers?  Maybe Marks DTM can be a pal and add it to the list in the maintenance guides?

Cheers,

Theo

He may bring that one too.  If not, it's only 15 quid at Argos.  Looks like same one / same price as Machine Mart.

Halfords has T45 for 3 quid, but no E-sockets.  Still on the search for those.

Not cheapest, but:

Yeah, looks like the one I tried to order locally.  Similar price.  Guess I'll call and see if they have it.

edit:  Yep, they've got it!  Guess a shopping trip to Cov is in the cards.

A full list of the tools required can be found here

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1156070744

The torque settings are:

Crank pully               20 Nm

Water pump pully      Stage 1 - 8 Nm
                              Stage 2  - angle tighten a further 30deg
                              Stage 3 -  angle tighten a further 30deg

Power steering pully  Stage 1 - 20 Nm
                              Stage 2  - angle tighten a further 30deg
                              Stage 3 -  angle tighten a further 15deg

I think the covers are 10nm  but I will check when I get home

The tensioner backing plate is higher, can't remember what tough - 30Nm rings a bell...

If you have the DVD... Marks tells you the settings as he does it.

I hoped he might, DVD should be here tomorrow.  Too bad my laptop HD is ready to explode, so I can't actually watch the DVD while working on the car.  (That's a whole 'nother story! Effing winblows &*^*%&%*(*&%#@#$!)

Yeah, that's the one I meant.  It's impressive.  May be getting long enough to where we might break it down into different repair jobs?  After I do mine, maybe I can help put together a pdf or sleeve for the DVD that has a list of tools and torque values.  Then can do the same for the cam cover gaskets, sans DVD.
