Interesting as most of the motorbility 1.6 16V ones are CD spec....I say post 2001 as this had the later steering setup and all had ABS.

Those we looked at weren't. Hers is a 52 plate Comfort, ABS as standard. Went to see a few that were advertised as having ABS but didn't have it when I got there.  >:(
Later steering set-up? How's it different from earlier?

No problems ..... just curious.  :y

Thats good for an auto with a small engine, there are few better!

Bottom line is, the Astra G is well screwed together, a reasonable drive, good auto box and well priced.

Agreed.
Trouble with looking for an auto is that most we looked at were ex Motability, and consequently were generally base models.
We/I wanted ABS on hers .... which meant a bit of finding.
In the 4 or 5 years she's had it, it's not needed much apart from basic servicing ........ I've put the EML (which has now gone out) down to lack of use.  ;)  ;)

Astra G 1.6 16V auto on a 2001 plate or later would be my recommendation

Which is exactly what SWMBO has. Crap fuel economy though considering it's only 1600. Admittedly she only drives about 4 miles to work & back each day but she only gets around 26/28 mpg. Even when we used it to go to Scotland the other year it only managed 37/38 mpg on a run, and that was taking it easy on the motorways - 70/75 mph

Just one question. How noisey should hydraulic lifters be after bleeding them?

Like a bag of spanners  ;D
It shouldn't take too long, a few minutes at the most, for the oil to fill them all.

If you had said Ordsall now that's a different kettle of ferrets. ;D

I'll have to take your word for it. There's a notice on HTS's door though reminding you not to leave your sat-navs in the car.  :-?

What about HTS at Salford?
Clicky

Cheers John!  [smiley=thumbup.gif]

HTS came up trumps John. £6-90  :-? for a 6 x 12 x 6 mm cup seal and I've now got a fully functioning trolley jack again! If this lasts as long as the last one I'll be too old to use a trolley jack.  ;) New oil courtesy of a famous brand of beanz!  :y  :y  :y

Not an area you'd want to go to on your own at night! I noticed that even the alsations roamed round in pairs! ;D  :y  :y

20 odd years back SWMBO bought me a trolly jack, it even came with a spare set of seals. So, when I was swapping over over my 'new' alloys and the jack decided to die on me, I thought .... 'no problem, I know exactly where the spare seal kit is, I'll fit it later ...'
I've stripped the jack down to componant level, got the cup seal out of the bag (I've known exactly where it was all these years ::)) and the f***er disintegrated on me!!
I've had a look on the net but can't find where I might get a seal.
It's a Master Mechanic TJ4000 - that's what Machine Mart use isn't it? -
I know I can buy another jack ..... but I want to repair this one!
Any ideas of where I can get a seal .... I've even got pictures and part numbers. ;D  ;D

I can't seem to find the Halo smileys  ::)  ::)  :y :y :y

I do too though. I leave the Omega on the drive & drive the shed. It's FWD and who gives a monkey's left ? if it hits anything?  ..... apart from another car!

The Astra H has an annoying alarm (ding ding ding IIRC) that starts a minute or 2 after driving if no seat belt fastened.  :-?

.... Obviously this is only one instance and they have to pass safety standards, but he was amazed at how badly the Ka faired in a relatively minor collision.

Probably not much diffferent from some of the rotten crap we/I drove years ago when words like rust proof & cars were never used in the same sentance.  ;)
