Must admit that I have done the wet'n'dry trick with deep scratches, but it takes forever to polish out the matt finish and can cause distortion if not very careful to fully blend out (bit like feathering out paint).

yep..by hand polishing and no sand paper takes ages.. like 3-4 full days of work..(I did)  :P  so will never use the same style ..
