Omega General Help / Oil lack warning arter engine swap
« on: 10 July 2012, 13:35:36 »
I just changed the engine in my Opel omega mv6 due too cambeltfailure. Car and old engine is 95. The new engine came from a 95 manual but im told it once came out of a 99 omega. Both engines Are x30xe. Had to swap most of the wiring over from the old engine to Get the right connectors for my autobox. Also used most of the sensors from the old engine because they had square connectors and the oval ones from the new engine didnt fit the wiring loom. The only bit of wiring i kept of the original wiring on the 99 engine is the bit around the starter, generator and oil sensor. Amazingly the new engine fired right up with no issues egen installed in the car. Only problem i cant figure out is the mid keeps saying oil lack. With the old engine it used to say old level, and the change to oil lack if i ignored the first Message. Are both warnings generated from the same sensor? Behind the generator? Are Therese different versionsof these? The car i took the engine out of just had a tid. Also the dipstick from the 99 engine is considerably shorter than the 95 dipstick? Seems original though. Oil level is at Max according to dipstick that came with new engine. It says oil lack constantly when i turn on the ignition. The check oil level Message i havent seen since the old engine was running. Also oil pressure light goes out correctly once the engine starts. Any insight in this would be Nice.

Omega General Help / Replacing engine x30xe autobox question
« on: 16 May 2012, 19:28:10 »
Hi. Due to cambelt failure im replacing the engine in my 95 x30xe estate. Car is automatic. New engine is also x30xe from donor sedan with manual. Im keeping the autobox. Have dismantled everything except the gearbox. My question is if its the best solution to lift the engine and autobox out with the engine crane as one Unit or should i separate the auto box from the engine first? Seems like the best solution to lift engine and box out together, then swap autobox to new engine and lift Them back in together. Would appreciate input from someone more experienced:)

Omega General Help / cam belt failure v6?
« on: 17 March 2012, 15:00:45 »
Hi. Driving home from work yesterday the Omega suddenly died. Heard horrible metallic crunching noise as it happened. Tried starting it afterwards but engine youst going round on starter with apparently no compression. Cam belt cover seems to have separated a little bit allthough i cant be sure it wasnt always like that. Car is 94 Opel Omega mv6(x30xe). Thought it looked like the cam belt where still in place over one cam-wheel looking through the gap in the cover, but im not really sure. Engines done 350.000km. Cam belt changed approx 3 years 50.000km ago. appologize for bad english as im from Norway:) Whats the probable damage here? cambelt and 24 bent valves? cheaper to replace engine or more realistic scrap the car? whas doing around 80 km/h 2000 rpm when it happened.

Omega General Help / Automatic gearbox failure
« on: 26 November 2011, 12:28:00 »
I've got a 95 Opel Omega mv6 (3 litre). The autobox has stopped working. As soon as i turn the ignition on the mid says "automatic gearbox". This is constant. I can shift manually in limp mode. Kickdown, sport and winter has also stopped working. I've been twice at the opel dealer. They used tech2 and found code 62 "power relay low voltage". Other than that they didnt really do much good:P They think either the ecu or the gearbox itself. Sounds like guessing, and sounds expensive! Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / car alarm failure (solved)
« on: 28 August 2011, 21:06:42 »
I've got a 95 opel omega mv6 estate(what vauxhall called elite i believe). Never heard the alarm for the 5 years i've had it until a week ago when it suddenly started waking up the whole farm at 3.00 am. This happened quite regularly after that. Since this is a norwegian car it never had the infamous power sounder fitted so that was out. First thing i did was disconnect the bonnet switch but still the car was howling in the night. Turned of the interior sensors with the same result. Took out all the door switches and the tailgate switch and cleaned them but no luck. The local dealer didnt manage to get into the alarm with their tech2. Was about to give up the whole thing when i suddenly remebered that this started happening just after i had filled the luggage compartment with junk one day. Disconnected the wires on the rear load space side windows. (glass break sensors) No i've slept peacefully for 3 nights:) obviously some of the junk had disturbed the glass break sensors. Just posting this in case it could help someone else with similar problems.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / weird heated rear seats
« on: 23 November 2010, 15:04:52 »
My hetaed rear seats have suddenly started acting funny. Earlier today i noticed the left rear seat switch was on. Try to switch it of but it stayed on. However the right rear seat turned on and off with left button. The yellow light in the right button went on and off by pushing the left button. Now the left button does not go on at all, but it still switches the right button on and off. My brother also noticed once he was sitting back there that the rear heated seats turned themselves on and off to the beat off the tailgate wiper! Thinking earth failure somwhere maybe?
Also what is the control box in front of the rear seat switches for?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / mirror memory problem
« on: 16 August 2010, 18:07:49 »
The Omega has suddenly developed a new problem. It has memory seat and mirrors. Suddenly the memory on the mirrors is weird. when i push a preset button on the seat the seat moves to the correct preset position. The 2 outside and the inside mirror however just moves to the same position when pushing the seat button. The inside mirror will move as far as it can go upwards. The outside mirrors will also move to one side as far as they can go. pushing the preset button again will cause the mirrors to try and move even further than is physically possible. In the end they will blow the mirror fuse. Storing the memory again will not help. have removed the drivers seat and everything seems connected under there. No obvious break in the wires either. The memory must work since the seat position is stored. Adjusting the outside mirrors with the button on the drivers door works fine. The seat buttons does operate the mirrors but to total insane settings. Worked fine before. Hope this made some sense and that someone have an idea where the problem is/ how to test it. May be the black box under the seat itself at fault?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / headlights always on
« on: 02 August 2010, 09:13:01 »
The car developed a weird problem today. The headlights stay on constantly. Even if i turn the switch of, stop the car and lock and leave they still shine. Must take the fuses out to stop them. Have tried 2 different ligtswitches without any difference. Have also tried removing fuse 8 for scandinavian daytime running lights with no help. Its only the normal dipped beam that does this. Tail lights and instrument, licence plate lights go on and of with the switch. Tried disconnecting the battery to with no help. What has possessed my lights??

Hi. I have a question about the alarm in my 95 estate. Its working as it should when i set it. If i open a door or the bonnet with the alarm on it flashes and sound the horn. The problem is that in the first ten seconds after i switch it on the alarm light in the button on the dash flashes rapidly before it slows down to the normal rate. Also the interior motion detectors dont seem to work. Left the drivers door window open and waved my arm inside in front of the sensors and nothing...
Any ideas?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / headlight/taillight
« on: 02 March 2010, 17:13:53 »
hi. i'm a new member here. I have a -95 Omega MV6 estate. Great car but the headlight/taillight error msg in the mid really anoys me. I've had the car for 2 years now and that msg has been there all the time. Have tried to change both headlightbulbs and both taillightbulbs for new GM bulbs with no change. previous owner thought the towbar was the problem. This is retrofitted to the plug in the booth floor but with the brake light to trailer taken from left car brake light cluster. The proper Opel plug for trailer wiring is not used. and is now discontinued. Message disappers when i switch to sidelights... Really annoying since its required by law in Norway to have lights on at all times and they turn on automatic. Means i have pushed the mid button every 15 mins in 2 years now to get rid of that message popping up:P

I've read thruogh alot of alarm threads on this forum and realised i have never heard any alarm action in my 94 Omega mv6. I tried it out the other day by popping the hood with the lever in the car only. I then armed the alarm by pushing both the buttons on the IR remote. I then opened the hood and the alarm is obviously working because the indicators started flashing. No audible alarm though. I then removed the wiper arm and the scuttle and found the alarm horn witch had obviously been drowned in water from the hole in the scuttle. Have ordered a new horn. Found no trace of a powersounder though. No extra connections either. anyone know if the early models may not have had a powersounder?

Omega General Help / v6 fault code 19 & 136
« on: 07 August 2010, 17:35:35 »
the Omega suddenly wont go past 4000 rpm'ish. Goes a little over and then starts violently going up and down in revs as if it hit a rev limiter. Runs perfectly up to just above 4000. Paperclip gave code 19 and 136. aka incorrect rpm signal and the very useful "unknown driver output error":P Have seen several here had the 136 without symptoms. Am i right in guessing that 19 is the crankshaft sensor and getting a new one might cure it? eml comes on if i keep it aroun 4000 for a few seconds then goes out as soon as i release the throttle.

Omega General Help / lost my vacum to dash
« on: 21 July 2010, 23:01:44 »
Noticed that the air recirculation valve wasnt working. Neither is the air direction switches. 95 model with manual heater controls. Checked the blue vacum hose to the recirulation valve, and no vacum. No hissing noises in the dash. The weird thing is that the vacum sometimes returns. Then everything works. (direction buttons and recirculation.) the next minute it can dissapear again. vacum huse from brake servo to vacum tank has constant vacum. What could cause the vacum to come and go?
