Automatic gearbox failure
« on: 26 November 2011, 12:28:00 »

I've got a 95 Opel Omega mv6 (3 litre). The autobox has stopped working. As soon as i turn the ignition on the mid says "automatic gearbox". This is constant. I can shift manually in limp mode. Kickdown, sport and winter has also stopped working. I've been twice at the opel dealer. They used tech2 and found code 62 "power relay low voltage". Other than that they didnt really do much good:P They think either the ecu or the gearbox itself. Sounds like guessing, and sounds expensive! Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Opel said the relay was in the gearbox ecu. But they didnt know where the ecu was, so i dont know if they know its in there or just guessing. I've located the ecu behind the glovebox(lhd). Is the relay in question inside the ecu? and does this mean new ecu is needed?

I find it had to believe that a vauxhall dealer did not no where the ECU was

nevertheless.. Was an Opel dealer btw. they offered me to find out by checking some books when i came to pick up the car. But by that time they had worked on it for hours and i was kind of upset that they never bother to check where the gearbox ecu was located in that time.

Gearbox ECUs are quite reliable I am told. I think I have a spare one that you are welcome to borrow if it will help. It's from a '98 2.5 auto but I think the ECUs are the same.

Worth checking the relay though - I'll have a look at my wiring diagram and see if I can work out where it is located.

Ok, I have looked at my wiring diagram (ok, its a '99), and cant see any relays associated with the autogearbox - except the solenoid valves U10 & U13 inside the gearbox. Sorry about that ...........

The code 62 info is an abridged description. It`s actually,
Monitor relay, current supply for - Short circuit to ground voltage solenoid valves in TCM
The monitor relay is a drive module in the gearbox ecu.....so clearly something is connected to 0v (chassis or shorting out). Check all cables to gearbox and the blue circular multi-plug near battery. If all is OK you need a replacement ECU. They very rarely fail but have been known to.

ok thanks for all help. Have checked wires and now the blue multiplug. Everything seems ok. Guess i have to go hunting for a new ecu. One last question from me: Do the ecu have to come from a 3 litre or are the 2,5 similar? If theres a difference can a tech 2 session solve it? Much easier to find 2,5 parts here...

Ah, thats a oldie ;D

'Fraid in that case you need one from same car (ie, gs2.35 and it has to come from 3.0l)

Actually, looks like KT was fitted to all engines of the era, maybe it is Tech2'able for engine config  :-\

Its certainly not flashable for new firmwares.

Found an ecu for sale with gm 96017873 marked QB but it has same number gs2.35. Anyone know if this will work? current (probably faulty) ecu is gm 96017168 with same number gs2.35. My car is 95 3 litre, ecu for sale comes from 96 3 litre.
