Thank you so much for the concise clarity as always Al.It’s much appreciated .

Albs/re shocks I may go back to them with the Kiken springs as Al suggested tbh but if my plans change I will let you know however they have been in an outside shed for several years so condition may not be great anyway . :(
If they're manky and rusty they'll suit an omega perfectly  ;D

It won't have affected the springs, they would lived a much harder life under the car supporting its weight. Although the shocks won't have worn out through use, there's nothing preventing the gas leaking out.

The springs are the important part; new shocks are cheap enough not to be worth messing with used ones.

Ive spent a fortune on this car and it really has to stop.  ::) The shocks on it are less than a year old, and a new pair of B4,s is going to be yet another £100 on top of the £250 Ive spent on it in the last month.
If Ambas shocks were hardly used, and he wanted rid of them then it would be worth me giving them a try to see if I prefer them to the Sachs on there at the moment.  ;)

The dampers do not support the weight of the car. That is the spring's function. If a car's ride height has dropped then the springs should be the first thing to replace.

And self-levelling shocks are basically the standard one with a small air spring wrapped around them to adjust the ride height, with the coil spring still doing most of the work.

Well, both springs are missing last 2omm or so at the top, but I cant see that having much affect on the ride height.
I may well be very wrong though, and would be happy to be so. Only had the issue since replacing the S/L shocks, but they do support the car to a degree, when keeping it level ? So may have been "masking" an issue with the springs ?  :-\
Need to replace springs asap regardless as the MOT is due in a couple of weeks.

There you have it: two knackered springs.

As I wrote, the airbags on S/L shocks are an additional, adjustable spring to keep the ride height at a required level.

New  front discs (Brembo) & pads (GM) and changed the brake fluid. Old discs were absolutely knacked, so I expect the braking to be a lot better now.  :)
Will try and remember to post a pic of the old discs tomorrow. Should raise a larf.  :D

I think it was probably time to change these !  :o ;D

Nice shiny new ones.  :)

^^Like he said, without the air "spring" the standard spring doesn't hold the rear end up.  I think I have got some stronger springs from an elite I broke recently that had fubarred shocks but the springs had obviously been replaced with something with sufficient rate to hold the back end up.

I replaced the rear springs about 3 years / 14k miles ago with standard spec Sachs springs, as opposed to the elite spec soft ones.
Im a tad disappointed that the top 2cm has snapped off both of them but thats life.
Im hoping to source a pair of plod springs to match the front ones. Otherwise I have the originals in the shed which will get it through the MOT, and then have a think about which way to go from there.  :y

ATF rated hose finally arrived today (Post Office delays :( ) so retro-fitted it when I got back from work this afternoon, hopefully fixed (well worked around) my failed ATF pipe issue. Will top up the box on the roadside as best as possible with two wheels on the footpath then take it round to my Dad's where I can fill it properly with it level, in the air, with the good lady priming the gears.... If you don't hear from me again then she took her foot off the brake while priming each gear while I was underneath!  ;D
