how bullet proof are the clutch slave cylinders don't want to refit the old one if prone to failure or am I better just getting a new one while box is off anyway?
-
You already know the answer :y
At the very least, replace the bearing :y
-
bearing has been done didn't have a problem with clutch before removal slave looks ok though. best not take a chance
-
Ok, I have to ask...
Why is the box off it the clutch is sound?
-
for powder coating candy red mate. plus the dual mass flywheel was fubar
-
Then you want to be changing the clutch too :y
-
yea already got the flywheel fitted to block today. need the rest now.
-
One wonders, has Al been candy appled as well?
Actually I'm off before the obvious happens ;D ;)
-
Candy apple is more Dazzles' colour ;D
-
well by the end of September whole car will be that colour
-
In all the years, I am yet to see a failed slave cylinder on the Omega (unlike a few FWD units from certain manufacturers)
-
So change clutch and pressure plate and old slave should be fine?

Only if you change the release bearing... if that fails, it will destroy everything in the bellhousing.
But whilst you're in there, you might as well change the lot :y
-
Thing is look at what you have to go through to get at it again. Change everything imo :y
-
You guys are right. Not wanting to strip it for a slave cylinder so will just replace all :y

How much are they, Davie? I've never done an omega clutch (watched one be done). Normally a new one comes with the clutch kit for things like fords etc :-\
-
LUK kits are either rep set: friction plate/pressure plate, or rep set pro: friction plate/pressure plate/slave cylinder (including release bearing). So the price difference is misleading. You can only buy the release bearing as a separate component from Vauxhall, and I cannot fathom why LUK won't supply it with the basic kit :-\
-
Very strange. Whats the diff in price between the 2 kits out of interest?
-
I don't recall :-[ the last clutch I bought came from Vauxhall...
-
Cheapest i have found was 91 quid for clutch and pressure plate or 170 quid for same with a slave cylinder. Found a clutch on ebay supposing to increase torque is this correct??
-
Don't change the slave, you could potentially be fitting a part of unknown quality compared to the OE item which is known to be bullet proof.
Do change the release bearing which clips into the slave cylinder end (most base clutch kits come with this but if not, it can be bought separately)
-
So best clean up slave. And go pressure and clutch plate?
-
Pressure plate, friction plate and release bearing :y
-
Pressure plate, friction plate and release bearing :y
This being as important as the other two parts :y
My LUK slave is on its second clutch and about 140k, with no concerns fwiw.
-
Will do guys. Clutch plate, pressure plate and release bearing :y
-
Cant find a release bearing anywhere. Only concentric slave, plate and pressure plate. Can find a release bearing for older cars. Sorry :-[
-
Try Vauxhall :y Charles Warner in Lincoln might be a good place to start...
As I said earlier, pattern slaves include the bearing, but they won't sell them separately ::)
-
My car has the big green hydraulic thing in the box is that meant to have a release bearing on top? When i took it apart. It had dual mass flywheel. Clutch plate. Pressure plate then that green part. Sorry if im a breast al
-
Bearing lives on the end of the green thing... Should simply pull off, and it looks like a, um, er bearing ::)
-
Am going for a pull at my bearing :-X
-
Yes al you are the man. Does come off took a bit of a smack to get it off. :y
-
Did you get that from your local drug dealer then :D
