And it even started afterwards as well....blimey i didnt break it!  :D

But ive know got a kitchen that smells of carb cleaner again  ;D

I am thinking of doing the same on my Cavalier at the weekend (in addition to the Omega Exhaust, Tie Rod and Steering idler!)

I too was wondering about the gasket.

Good job, mine picked up better around 3-4k after i cleaned mine.

Mine was like a Mine (pun intended). Took me about an hour just cleaning the gunge of the throttle body. Car was supposed to have been dealer serviced from new. Makes me wonder about the rest of the beast.

Does go well now though but have not taken it too far yet. Response to the right boot is a lot better though. :y

Its been a job ive been putting off for a while.....ive only been up the road in it since...but it did seem to have more of a response (even on lpg!) tho may have been my imagination... :-/

I'll have to see what its like in the morning.....its suppose to be chilly tonight....and for a while its been missing when it first switches to lpg in the mornings when its cold out.

I can't see any difference in the photos. Only kidding.

Mine is worse than yours was to start after I cleaned it! Mind you I had none of this "carb cleaner" so had to use petrol and a rag etc.

Years ago when I was into Cooper S's, I got given a gallon of something like CarboTetro something. It was a clear liquid that was absolutely brilliant for cleaning bearing surfaces etc. Probably illegal nowadays.

What would I look for in a Spanish shop/garage as a carb cleaner? Is there a UK brand you can get in Halfords etc?

The stuff i used/have is by Wynns.....and funnily enough its called 'fuel injection intake and carb cleaner'  ;) bought from Halfords

The Carb Cleaner, if left overnight, especially on dual fuel systems, will form an anti start film in the injectors, this eventually clears if left for 48 hours.

Try some CHILLI SAUCE!  That'll disolve anything!

Wynns is sold in Halfords in a purple can - £5.

Well done TD - I hope you lubed it with 3in1 as in AA's guide or it may stick open at idle.  :y

That would have been Carbontetrachloride or dry cleaning solution Olive.  It could dissolve your brain at 50 paces.

Not easily available now.  I used to like pouring it onto my hands and watching it boil and evapourate.

 Used to come in aerosol cans way back when I was an apprentice in the Steel Industry.There was a brand name but can't think of it .Absolutley brilliant stuff could be used to degrease a sump to spot cleaning a carpet !!!Come to think of it is it not still used in dry cleaning ? But you're probably right that you'd be remanded in custody if you were caught in possesion . ::)

Cheers.....I did use a spot of 3in1.....however on 2.2's possibly all DBW's the butterfly does stay open a tad in the idle position.  :y

when i was at school,did my work experiance in an airplane brake and wheel refurbishing shop.
used to use an aresol called skyrol for cleaning the carbon off the brake drums and wheels.
now that stuff was evil. use in a well ventilated room ? if used outside the corner shop owner used to complain about the fumes 3 streets away,
happy days,

and then we learn what these various chemicals actualy do to our bodys.  :-[

Ahh! CTC. Used to be widely used in the Navy at sea. It was wonderful using it in the confined spaces of a ship!?!?
Also when I first started at my last job in 1990 we used to get it in 5 gallon drums under the name of Jenclean(sp?), great for cleaning up oil splills.  :-?
