Fitting cruise control to cars that don't have it
« on: 27 January 2010, 18:00:54 »

I have a 98 2.5V6 CD and want to fit cruise control. Searched and it seems possible but how much of a pain is it to fit? Are there any how to guides here? Will it be expensive?

Cheers

The wiring is in place for it, so you will require the unit itself (complete) and a new brake switch and a clutch switch if a manual. Obviously a new indicator stalk as well.

Mine cost £45 done by one of the guys on here who does servicing - on top of the service cost that is.

Plug and play.  :y

Should be able to get all the bits for about £40 if you use a 2nd hand stalk. http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1166374649

First mod I did to my MV6 :y.

Dead easy, unless you have aux waterpump, in which case a bit of fabrication needed (nothing major)

You will need to obtain a control stalk, actuator motor, mounting box, the control cable and the metal carrier end on the cable if your car does not have the additional hole for the cruise cable.

What cars have these? Can you get the above bits from Vauxhall or do they cost too much?

Really want this but looks a little complicated :-[

Look for a similar aged CDX or Elite or ask one of the breakers on here.

Fitted one to mine last year. Breaker parts were used (good man robseymv6). As stated if you have the coolant pump fitted to the offside inner wing a bit of imagination is needed to move/bend mounting plates.

The stalk is a doddle to change. I did not change the brake switch 'cos I found a dodge on here that suggested linking out thge 2 spare  terminals at the back of the brake switch connector with a paperclip or similar.

If you've got a manual 'box guess you 'should' fit a switch there as well but I believe some don't.

Sure Daz will be able to assist.

Not really.  Follow the guide and get the factory part to fit it - number supplied on the howtoo.  Needs only a couple of holes drilled to mount the support.....  :y

Reading back at my last post, If I came across like I didnt appreciate the help when I said I'll ask Daz, it was to source parts from the Omega he is breaking.  :-*

I just came back from a longish drive, mainly dual carridgeway and I have decided to give this a go. Expect another thread once I have sourced all the parts.  ;D

To clarify I will need these from breakers/ebay:

control stalk
actuator motor
mounting box
control cable
metal carrier

Is it now OK to use second hand stalks? The last time we mentioned them, we heard:-
For crying out loud, how many times do I have to say it
FOR CRUISE STALKS, BUY BRAND NEW
and:-
second hand is false economy, full beam tends to wear and come on when braking a heavy.

I wanted to sell an OOFer one for a Fiver, but on here he was advised against it, and so he spent £48.65 on a new one, now it seems the advice is:-

get from breaker   :y/
