I will try to feel for escaping exhaust gas first and then give it a go, I am becoming more certain that it is the exhaust manifold. Will obviously soak the studs in penetrating fluid before I snap then off!  :o
Thanks for the advice and opinions.  :y

She would kill me if I spent any more money on it, how big a job is to DIY? I do not need it on the road day to day and have a reasonable level of ability.  :y

Not sure of the spelling and I know fun will be made but I do have a problem. The beast is a 1998 2.5 Elite with 130K on the clock

The noise is worse when the engine is cold, gets better as the engine warms but does not disappear. I know that it will most likely be either sticky valve lifters or a leaking exhaust manifod (hopefully not cracked) but I cannot decide which. I am in the process of doing a few short oil changes and have put some Wynns in with the last lot of oil, no obvious improvement. What I do have is an increasing smell in the cabin, thought it was just because I had been doing lots of work on the beast but it seems to be getting worse - could the manifold be the problem and exhaust gases getting into the cabin?

On the up side at least it wasn't going 'dugga, dugga, dugga'  :y

Sounds like good advice - must put on the 'to do' list. France is not good for Omega spares, or caravan tyres come to that, last time I had a problem abroad had to wait 3 days to get rear disc pads shipped in after the braking material parted company from the backing. After a tyre blowout on the van had to have two tyres flown in from the UK courtesy of the Caravan Club  :o :o

I've just crossed my fingers regarding recovery  the last couple of times we've gone to France. As our 'van is 7.05 metres long, many recovery firms won't give cover as they have a 7.0m max limit, & I felt Red Pennant was taking the p when they want £200+ for the fortnight's cover.

No longer an issue for me as SWMBO sold my damn caravan! It was the right time to sell but I was sad to see her go. Roll on retirement because I am buying another!  :y

Wow... that was a quick response.

Cheers Andy B  :y

We try to please.  ;) ;) A crank sensor is a very useful spare to have in the boot. By learning from The Boy when his crank sensor packed up in French France I bought one for my boot. It came in very handy last year when mine packed up one Friday afternoon after the shops had shut!  :y  :y  :y

Try swapping the plug lead for one known to work. As far as I am aware the only culprits for no spark are the coil pack, HT leads and plugs.  :y

The sender on my water header tank has failed giving me a warning message 'water level low'. My local garage tells me that they can only buy the complete tank at a cost of £40. Does anybody have an alternative solution?

You can get them new from Vauxhall for about £30. It isn't worth fitting a secondhand one  ;)

When reading this please bear in mind that Daz likes them to be pristine white!  ::)
Can however recommend him for timing belts and intelligent chat, a top quality mechanic.  :y

Once you get a blind from another facelift (or prefacelift and modifiy the connection) it's a case of swap them over, plug the loom and switch in.  :y

sweet, sounds simple enough, thanks

There is a good guide on the forum to use, just watch your speakers as you are putting the shelf back in as the 3 fixing studs can catch and damage the speakers.  :y

The electric blind is the only toy on my Elite which doesn't work.  I think the motor still works but something might be jammed.
I've never seen a use for the electric rear blind tbh so I haven't got round to trying to fix it.  What do people use it for?

If it just clicks when the button is pressed it may be that one of the gears has jumped out of the bush for the spindle as mine did, fixed this once, happened again so I replaced it with a motor and gear assembly from a scrapper.
I agree that they very rarely get used but I am one of those OCD people who has to fix things that do not work.  :o :o :y

An Elite, why hasn't it got one already?
The connection is in the back left corner of the boot, up high. It is a slim black connector, worth having a look to see if it is present.  :y

Lost any sockets recently? There is an E12 female torx socket in my engine bay somewhere. Any metal pipework vibrating against other metal part e.g. inner wings?  :y

Yes maybe it needs resetting? As if I adjust the driverside it doesn't do the other at the same time is there a way to do this? I said uncomfortable cause it bumps around like a go cart I've got to get use to it that's all it's very different from the old one with it's Maxine leather arm chairs! Cheers :y

I suppose that is the difference between the Elite and the MV6? I will stick to the comfort of the Elite I think.  :y

Now that I've got this bloody uncomfortable car what mileage should I expect it's a 3.2 auto also the dig climate control, when I change the temp on drivers side should passenger side do the same (like on my old elite) unless passenger adjusts cheers :y

I am interested - why do you describe it as such?  :)
