hi, i have just bought an omega toure 2.5 v6 estate,then discovered that it was only running on 4 cylinders.the garage said it was a problem with either the ht leads or the ignition coil pack,they replaced both, and it cost me £300 is this a good price. Thanks, Tom.

£300 is a reasonable price for the car but way over the odds for a dis pack and leads

You could have bought another omega for that price.
Leads £30-40, Dis pack £90-100 + 1 hours labour - £200 tops - could have done it yourself for 1/2 price - there are lots of maintenance guides on here.

As said...but also the garage should have been able to replace one or the other and only replace both if both had failed...so extra rip off really...

if 2 pots, one on opposing banks, are not firing then probably was the dis pac at fault, leads can look ok but the rubber can get week and split very easily, so not totally bad idea to change them. 300 is steep but depending on their hourly rate not suprising. Second hand parts from a breaker can lower the cost as can diy. If so, you could have done the job your self for.... 70 to 80...?

Its an awkward job though. Limited access and easy to dislodge other important items like vac pipes and electrical connectors.

yeah it can be hard but nay mechanic worth his salt would have noticed he could remove the pannel under the scuttle pannel for good access

And move the wiper motor mechanism to the side.

I just had mine done on my 97R 2.5 Elite .. total cost for new plugs and second hand HT leads and dis pack from breakers was £185 fitted.

And it's now purring like a pussy, smooth as velvet again.

I just paid £500 to get mine repaired & still have a few bits and bobs which need attention. Am hoping it will last me a few years & it will eventually pay off..
