Slight hesitation on Acceleration
« on: 31 January 2009, 23:43:40 »

Looking for help on a slight hesitation on accelation ... only sometimes on hard acceleration above 3500rpm i feel a slight hesitation which then clears and revs again ..... in the past i've had code P0420 and P0170 codes but nothing pointing to any paticular part/sensor .... i have had 2 new cats fitted under the warranty but the P0420 code still kept coming back and the warranty is now expired .... i dont get the P0420 now though , seems to have been replaced by the fuel trim code P0170 which i just keep resetting .   There are no codes in the car just now so where do i start.   I dont really want to throw money at it to find any parts i replace dont cure the problem  :-/

Thanks .

hmmm, sounds like spark breaking down to me, how old are the plugs, have you checked wells for oil and the condition of the dis pac? But on the other hand i would want to be getting it on a tech 2 and check the fuel trims live data, or what ever it is they do, as i wonder if that could cause a hesitation if its bad enough, perhaps. Albatross had fuel trim code, turned out to be the maf giving inaccurate data iirc.
Should add his is a 3.2 though.

It had a full service at VX maybe 4-5 months ago so i would assume the plugs were done and last look no oil in plug wells but that was a few weeks ago mind you . I'll check again tomorrrow.  I think the dis was replaced under the warranty as it did develope a misfire , but again that must be 7-8 months ago . :-/

warranty? Bloody hell, if its under warranty get it back in there and get the fuel trims sorted, and anything else you can think of. GM  Maf's are over a £100! If thats the issue....

It was under warranty , but the 6 month i got when i bought it has expired .  I did get 2 new cats out of it though with the P0420 code which probly didnt even need replacing  ;).

Interesting you mention the Maf though ... ive been looking online a lot about this problem code P0170 and it seems the maf is the first place that gets pointed to..... :-/

If you can get a tech 2 on it (or an OBDII reader) and look at the live data from the MAF at, say, idle and 2500 RPM and then get someone with a known good car to do the same it might allow us to eliminate the MAF.

A look at the live data would also confirm what's happening to the fuel trim (i.e. which way it has gone) and this might provide another clue.
