Boot lid harness

It is only about 3000 miles ago that I repaired the wire between body and boot lid this time I have 2 broken wires.Is there a permanent fix for this problem?

Either repair it better or replace with brand new if you can. get one.

People often make the mistake of resoldering the break, rather than adding a section 6-8" long so that the joints aren't still in the hinge point.

At least it's not an Alhambra/Galaxy/Sharon.... It's a weekly job on the drivers door loom!

Indeed. One of my former Taxi colleagues presented me one evening with three doors to do on his Sharamblaxy :o

Common issue on e61 Bmw 5 series estate
Do a repair adding extra length to all wires not just the broken ones
Did mine about 5 years back still good

As well as making sure that any joins are not in the hinged (flexing) area, best to make sure the joins are staggered.

it was on the E34 estate too.
New looms(there's one each side) were about $15 according to an internet guide. Mine had already been soldered, and weren't fit for another repair.So, after delivering a car to the local dealer, I thought I'd order a pair. At £115, I decided to live with the central locking not working and the gimmicky glass hatch not opening.


The very expensive optional double sunroof had some serious, and typical, mechanical issues too. I wrestled the panels to a reasonable wind and water tight fit, and left the switch disconnected so I wasn't tempted to see if it had a fairy fix....


Horrible car to drive, own and work on. If it had been a saloon I doubt I would have kept it past the first MOT.
