I spent many a happy day out out there during school holidays. When the big fair was there with the old, wooden roller coaster. My dad used to say he was "going on a message" and tell us to watch out for the toucan coming out of the Guinness clock. He'd be "on his message" for about an hour and come back smelling of booze  ::)

I thought you meant Gibraltar.

I do not recognise the location in Gibraltar, so is there another 'Rock'? ??? ??? :D ;)

It looks like Portsmouth from a certain angle. :)

If of any interest check a film out called "The Magnet" has some scenes set on the beach in front of the fort ,by the pier before it was demolished ,in the funfair and a ride on the dockers umbrella. Stars Edward Fox in his first film aged 7 I think. :y

It may surprise you Steve, but when I visited the Museum of Liverpool the other year I learnt all about that, and how dockers used that overhead system to shelter from the rain between jobs. ;D ;D ;D ;)

When the railway went, the dockers had no shelter..............but, hang on............with containers taking over, there were no dockers of the old type, just those sheltering in the cabs of container movement machines! :D :D ;)

No more 'dockers perks' either! ::) ::) ;D ;D :)

There's always perks in Liverpool. Instead of small perks, it's container loads of perks now.  ;D
