One of the truck at work throws up a curious warning light about a second after the hand brake is applied...

On application of hand brake:


About a second later:


Been like that for nearly a month and starting to get bored with it...

On another, identical vehicle, pedal is so soft that you can almost push it to the floor :o

Both are apparently perfectly serviceable :-X

If only... ;D Last time the owners manual was in the cab was at the Pdi before the body builder received it...

Air pressure fine. Builds pressure from empty in about two minutes, pressure alarms all behave as expected.

They're all autos, but gear warning symbol different ;)

Its the tacho warning of overspeed if limited to 56 or there is no card inserted

Not I nterested in the yellow T ::) trucks are off road on private property, and 56mph would be an 'overspeed' of 36mph ;D

My concern is the difference between the two pictures  ;)

Had a brief chat with our nearest Iveco Service Centre this morning.

Warning light might simply be a duff sensor, but could be triggered by a number of things. Needs diagnostic test and roller test to identify/isolate and hopefully rectify the cause.

Soft pedal is probably an issue with the lines to either axle and/or associated chambers (it pulls up straight)... again needs a roller check to confirm. This truck incidentally runs about 0.5 Bar lower than the others...

It's an iveco, they are known to throw electrical faults at the drop of a hat, that's why most large company's lease them for 3 years and get rid of them.

Also just defect it, and remember, your the nut behind the wheel, your not paid to fix it, if you think it's an issue refuse to drive it.

Yep, it's not your truck. Report defects as you see fit and otherwise just drive the bloody thing!  :-X  ::)

The other issue is that although other people recognise that there are faults, the majority never report them. Which makes it seem like those that actually do their checks and report defects accordingly are being 'difficult'.

Ok that looks to be a serious fault with the braking system, or parking brake be it not balanced or lining low

That's what we figured... (we being another hgv licenced driver who initially raised the defect about a month ago and myself.) Yellow faults can generally wait until the end of day (lighting failures aside), and red faults should be at the very least checked out prior to using it.

Our vehicles all used to be regularly and reliably maintained by the site MT department. But to save costs, the company employed a car mechanic to look after the fleet with a van and no workshop. With this in mind, the only maintenance that is permitted on site are emergency work, ie to get the thing moved out of the way and minor  running repairs... tyres/bulbs and the like.

Since this happened, the whole fleet has gone to shit as he can barely keep up with the minor items... the bigger jobs simply get ignored until something breaks or you threaten to report it to Site Ops... then it goes into MT ::)

Refusing to drive vehicles doesn't work, as there's always some dickhead who will take anything out even if nothing works and the wheels are missing  :-X
