Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Superunleaded
« on: 14 August 2016, 21:39:27 »
My 2.5 manual does feel more responsive on super unleaded but as for mpg then I really do not bother. It is a weekend car and fuel economy is not the number one reason for driving it.

It is a Depo unit so I will have to have a closer look as  you suggest.

Eventually got round to changing the headlight unit. However, dipped beam looks like it is too low & shining to the left. The unit is a Taiwan copy so cannot see any internal adjuster as in the original Hella.

The old one is not responding to polish any more! Looks like the previous owner ( one only since new before me) had scraped  the nearside & had some sort of repair done to the bumper - the plastic on the light seems to have been over sprayed possibly. Thanks for the advice on the replacement - will let you know how we get one next weekend.

My 2001 2.5CDX has a pair of Xenon Headlights. The nearside one has become yellow & have decided needs replacing as the offside looks new ( bought the car 2 years ago). I have found  a replacement unit from e-bay  advertised as Xenon but looks like I will have to remove the bulb holder on the old unit & fit it to the new one. Have I bought some trouble here ? Comments please.

I had to replace the 20 amp fuse with a 15 amp since I did not have a spare. It has not blown again .Tomorrow I will find a correctly rated replacement before we go out again.
The fact that the boot interior bulb had failed some time ago and that I removed it today to check the resistance ( did not look blown but was faulty) and then did not replace it, as I did not have the correct one in stock, may have caused the fuse to blow. It's rather like when a light bulb fails at home and trips the circuit breaker. There is a reason for all of this but will I ever really know?

Checked fuses and found that No 12 had blown - this covers dash, central console, boot interior light, etc. Too many things to be switched off at once. Still does not explain the flashing lights, but that may be down to something in the brain somewhere.

What does that involve? Dash has not been out so could something have moved. like an electrical plug?

Everything working earlier today. Parked car on drive and did the usual under bonnet fluid level. Put key in ignition - usual initial light display - started engine - no rev counter, no radio, nothing lighting up in central console. Inicator lights display but hazards do not. Occasional flickering of fuel level light and some others on dashboard. Car drives as normal - no speedo either.
Where do we start to look? Have checked under bonnet big fuses and relays, but this doesn't look like a fuse issue.

Just to add a couple of points. The dash lights which come on intermittently are the temp. handbrake, fuel warning. The only thing that lights up in the central console are the heated seats when they are switched on.

Omega General Help / Re: Front seats.
« on: 03 January 2015, 19:21:26 »
All pretty much as I had feared. 1994 FEL seats are the best I have ever sat in , even better than Jaguar in my opinion. 2001 seats are pretty average on the CDX so I expect they will be the same if they are FEL. Basically they are a different trim with both the base & the back a modified shape (cheaper). Looks like the 94 will be back on the road this year and the 2001 may be up for sale.

The 1994 CDX I have has full electric seat adjustment. Will these fit into my 2001 CDX which has only up and down power movement.

Omega General Help / Re: Kickdown Q

Omega manual gear change reminds me of a 2000E Ford box. Except for BL in line motors, I have only driven tranverse engines since. First gear in the 2.5 is too low & second does not go far enough. However, still flexible fom 20mph in fourth.

2.5V6 auto saloons were advertised as 0-60 in 10.5 seconds in the 1994 specification brochure,2.5 manual in 8.5 seconds, 3.0 auto in 9.3, 3.0 manual in 8.3. You will know if the kickdown is working properly or not - once they are going the auto picks up far better than the manual, and just keeps going. If the kickdown is not working then I cannot help you as mine is yet to fail.
