Changing a nearside Xenon Headlight.
« on: 10 April 2016, 10:13:33 »

My 2001 2.5CDX has a pair of Xenon Headlights. The nearside one has become yellow & have decided needs replacing as the offside looks new ( bought the car 2 years ago). I have found  a replacement unit from e-bay  advertised as Xenon but looks like I will have to remove the bulb holder on the old unit & fit it to the new one. Have I bought some trouble here ? Comments please.

Probably easier to polish the lens on your old one.

But its easy enough to swap all bits over. Bulb holder, ballast etc all are simply screwed in, servo is a twist lock, large cable from ballast to bulb is twist lock.

The old one is not responding to polish any more! Looks like the previous owner ( one only since new before me) had scraped  the nearside & had some sort of repair done to the bumper - the plastic on the light seems to have been over sprayed possibly. Thanks for the advice on the replacement - will let you know how we get one next weekend.

You'll have no trouble - once the unit is on you bench so you can look around it, it'll all be obvious :y

The biggest issue is the internal adjusters, which are delicate as they go brittle with age. I think Xenon ones are better due to less heat generated, but still break.  Replacing adjusters is easy enough, but quite daunting the first time.

Eventually got round to changing the headlight unit. However, dipped beam looks like it is too low & shining to the left. The unit is a Taiwan copy so cannot see any internal adjuster as in the original Hella.

It might be inside the xenon side... had a similar issue with a set of Depo ones ;)

It is a Depo unit so I will have to have a closer look as  you suggest.
